Tell me this isnt true!!

Prince turning into the new Elvis, the new Celine Dion.... Playing for millionaires who dont give a fuck about the music... How low can he go???

I mean, i was hoping for some kind of artistic rennaissance (like Lou Reed, Van Morrison and Tom Waits had in their mid-fourties), but it seems that will remain wishfull thinking for now sad

Umm... he probably 'needs' the money (not sure how much Mani is getting out of their divorce, but it could be a lot...).

It seems everytime he ends a longtime relationship or marriage with a women he goes all bezerk...

Becoming the 'new messiah' with Lovesexy and graffiti bridge after his relationship with Susannah Melvoin ended.

Turning into a Jehovah witness after his relationship with Mayte ended.

And now, after the divorce of Manuela, he is turning into some Vegas-Elvis or Tom Jones...

If ONLY.

Even George Clinton isn't resident in Vegas. He still tours at 65. He was in London a few months ago.

George isn't even a resident of this planet and you know he has a 'little help from his friends' to keep him going... lol

The Rio is a great place for him. Convenient and the Voodoo lounge I'm sure he'll be hanging out afterwards. Some of the best weather on the planet is about to hit us for the next two months so that will also be nice. The fact that he doesn't have to do Vegas should be enough proof to the idiots that think he is all of a sudden become a "Vegas Act".

No shit, people tend to go to the extreme for some reason. If it happens, it's supposed to be a 3 month gig, that's hardly turning into Celine. As usual, it will be under Prince's terms or not at all. You know there's not going to be multiple performances a day, probably not even one every day. It might even be a warmup for the supposed 2007 tour, so what's wrong with that? Heck, at least for a little while, people can actually PLAN ahead of time to see him. Parties can even be planned, who'd a thunk it? wink

Vegas still has bad connotations IMO.

Maybe it is the way people in the UK and Europe percieve Las Vegas. Wrong or right, the impressions are there.

Moreover, it appears as if Prince is following in the footsteps of utterly naff sell-outs like Celine Dion and Elton John with their highly lucrative residencies.

In my view, pioneering, truly legendary, creative Artists do not embark on Las Vegas residencies. I may be about to be proved wrong, but there it is.

You are correct in stating Prince 'doesn't have to do Vegas'. Personally, I would rather he didn't perform live at all, than damage his reputation in such a way.

Usually, I am very positive and supportive of Prince, but here I disagree. It's no big deal, I still love the music, but Vegas ...? Please.

That's the color of the Rio Casino in Vegas. That's where Larry Graham,The Time and Prince performed back in May.[img]

...I guess something's up. Hmmm wink
[Edited 10/2/06 12:27pm]

The Rio Casino is real nice and classy. The area inside where the concert took place is called "Club Rio". It had seating all around the wall areas and the center of the floor was very roomy. If that's where he plans to be then more than likely they'll call it "Club 3121" while he's there..maybe.

During the Time and Larry Graham show they had theatre- sized movie screens all around. The camera guy had it so you could see them performing and also the audience on the screen. Very classy and roomy. The stage is no more than about 7 inches off the ground (if I remember, not sure), matter of fact I don't believe it was raised off the floor at all. We were very much in front so you basically had a good view even if you were 10 people back. The npg security was very nice too. They did call out for npg members before they let most of the crowd in at that time.

I'm gonna wait and see what happens,so I'm not saying this is a bad or good thing,if it's only a few shows it may be alright.
But U are so right what concerns the perception of people all over the world when they hear an artist/performer is playing Vegas.
4 most of them it means they are at the end of their career!
When he released Live in Las Vegas I was already concerned!!
I'm not an Elvis fan,but I know the Vegas years are much ridiculed and
some people don't want 2 remember that period of his career.

4 a lot of people, press and musicians,Prince is so much more than Celine and other Vegas acts, like someone else stated;respected artists as Van Morrison & Reed would never walk that path.Imagine Bono doing Vegas...

"Looks like it's gonna be one of those years," Bono told the capacity crowd at Sam Boyd Stadium, a fair number of whom had flown the Atlantic to see the band. "I woke up this morning in a pyramid, looked out the window and saw the New York skyline... This is the only place in the world where nobody's gonna notice a 40-foot lemon. A city where dreams come true...VIVA LAS VEGAS!"
"What kind of fuck ending is that?"

I was walking in a drugged out haze once in Vegas, tired, drunk, broke and the full moon was setting as the sun rose, twilight, as I walked beside a pyramid.

Only in Vegas
