Purple Rain 20th Anniversary Prince should delay the possible release of Purple Rain on DVD,to 2004 to coincide with the 20th anniversary.
As well as the DVD he should re-release the album but with the tracks in their extended format eg. I Would Die 4 u , Computer blue, The Beautiful Ones and any others that have original extended sections. Add a bonus CD of the Roadhouse Garden sessions and some other Wendy & Lisa/Revolution unreleased recordings and baby he's a star again! Only problem is he'd probably have to work in conjunction with WB!!!!! [This message was edited Thu Aug 15 17:10:25 PDT 2002 by allanb]

I hate to break this to you...but it's already on DVD.
Saw it at Circuit City for $15.00. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

The version out now is not widescreen though. And it's bare bones as far as extra features go. They should do up a nice Special Edition for the anniversary.

this would be a really good idea...prince should swallow his pride and hook up with warner on this...studios are making *way* WAY more money on dvd's right now then cds...sure, it means warners will get paid...but prince will get paid BIG TIME!!
bigger then raping his fans...

I wouldn't be surprised if WB goes ahead and releases something for the anniversary with or without Prince's cooperation.
When you look at some of the movies flops being done by pop stars today, you realize just how special Purple Rain was. Purple Rain cost $7 million to make and it brought in about $70 million at the box office. That is a huge hit in 1984. Britney Spears' movie Crossroads cost $12 million to make, and it grossed $37 million at the box office. I don't know how much Mariah Carey's Glitter cost, but it only grossed $4 million at the box office and it's considered to be a major flop. It's hard to say whether a Purple Rain movie would be as big a hit in 2002 as it was in 1984.

Yep, if you look at it in today's dollars, Purple Rain would be a massive $100 million grossing film. Another thing is that Britney's film just disappeared and didn't really have much impact. While Purple Rain became a pop culture event, with people going to the theater to see it numerous times, people were dancing in the aisles during the concert scenes. There are a lot of rap and pop stars making movies these days, and not many of them have been the big hit that Purple Rain was.

Go prince! :woo!: Don't u just love how Rolling Stone called it the greatest rock 'n' roll film ever made and nowadays everything they say about P is negative? But then again, Eminem was recently on their cover, so what does that tell u? and @ Rolling Stone! . [This message was edited Thu Aug 15 23:13:19 PDT 2002 by Nep2nes]

another thing about Purple Rain.. Spike Lee said he got into film because of it!! and wanting to do HIS own films..
It was a all black cast (more or less) Major Budget & Promotion also.. Spike said it pumped him up that hollywood might put some real money in a film from a different point of view... ** IF you watch Purple Rain there is ALLOT od instrumental Sax playing in it.. YOU can clearly HEAR this is ALL of Spike Lee's Movies --- ALSO Tim Burton said it was one of his favorite movies.. and if you watch BATMAN & Batman:Returns Tim STEALS direct camera angles and ideas from Purple Rain.. Almost every scene in the Alley's .. look like shots Tim took for Batman (prince's coat.. the way it flows.. the motorcycle.. the smoke..) Jill Jones's clothes are taken exactly for Batman.. they exact look everything, even the puppy ( when jill is with the band before the go out and do "purple rain") Watch Purple Rain .. then watch Batman & returns.. you will be surprised.

They have been selling Purple Rain for under ten bucks for a while now. This is usually done prior to re-releasing a new version of a film (added stuff, wide screen, etc.). Expect it soon. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I think the movie itself need to be re-released in the theaters. Grease did it. That would be a great way to celebrate the 20th.
