What If Prince Stayed with WB?

How would the last decade have been different...your thoughts?

not much different.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

He would want to release more music,
WB would want to release less.

Bitter albums here and there, with little studio or artist support..basically more of what we got in the 90's.

I think it might have been a disaster. He's grown in many ways creatively they would have just used him for their own gain.

It's possible they mighta worked out their differences a little sooner, since the channels of communication would've still been there to use if each party wanted it.

This woulda probably led to a nicer PR 20th anniversary for us, and maybe remasters and such a bit sooner.

WB were very good to Prince overall..... But they're not a charity, they're a business. How many Carmen Electra's could Prince burn through before it effected his own work?..... I think we got the answer to that one actually.

He fucked up himself/ When he signed that huge contract he should of asked for his masters THEN!

If he was given his masters maybe he would of had a great relationship?

Im pretty sure that if he had stayed with them (which would assume they resolved certain differences), we would have seen a man a lot more focused, better videos, better singles and prommotion, remasters of his old stuff, and he would have actually been more experimental.

Going it alone, he was always trying to search for that hit song as there was probably more pressure to get an other one in order to please whichever new label he was with, i think creatively this pushed him in directions he wouldnt have gone natrually. He will have also had to take on a lot more commitments in terms of marketing his music, which were probably something of a distraction to him.
Since his departure from WB, he released around 12 albums worth of new studio material. (3 discs on Emancipation, The Truth, New Power Soul, Rave, The Rainbow Children, One Night Alone, Musicology, The Chocolate Invasion, The Slaughterhouse, 3121).

Thats 12 albums in 10 years, he achieved relitavely the same output with WB, so its not allowed him to produce more material. In fact its actually probably less. I think the difference for him was that I think it bacame personal, and less about business. Had it been on purely business terms he would have stayed with WB, but at teh time, WB were going through a lot of changes, and the new personnel didnt treat P with the kid gloves he'd always been used to.

The one thing that I think has been positive has been his endeavours into the internet. P was looking at ways to sell his music through the internet since way way back, and whilst he still isnt as accessible as Id like him to be through this medium, he's been something of a pioneer as far as main stream artists go.
