Prince's influence on the new generation of musicians I have read countless articles where Prince has been praised by D'Angelo, Maxwell, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Angie Stone, Raphael Saadiq, Beck, Jarvis Church, Billy C. of the Smashing Pumpkins, Outkast, Lenny Kravitz, Amel Larrieux, Meshell N., Musiq, Nikki Costa, Macy Gray, etc. etc. etc. And I started to think about how he has never really been truly appreciated by the mass audience yet musicians past and present consider him one of the greats and a genius. Yet I come to this site and I often read where some people (not all) criticize everything he does, says he's not as good as MJ, etc. Yet whenever I hear musicians talk about Prince they have the utmost respect for him. It has always been my belief that you really appreciate how great an artist is by the group of musicians they inspire. As it stands Prince has done pretty good for himself, and he is truly recognized by those who know as the man who ran the 1980s, a decade that is mistakingly credited to MJ based solely on album sells.

But you have to realize that there are Michael Jackson fans that come to this site, and make it their goal in life to defend anything remotely anti-MJ. Another thing; it's not everyone that credits Mike for the 80s. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Good thread. Prince get's mad props be it in interviews or just indirectly through modern day replication of his 80s sound. Seems you can link almost any artist to him these days...
The good ones need to get together and do a Prince tribute album.

without a Doubt Prince has a Strong Influence on Today's Acts&Artist IMHO.Prince was one of the Most Important Artists&Acts of the 80's IMHO.78-88 with Me for Prince overall.Creativity,Impact,Record Sales, all factor into any Major Artist.it is called the Music Business after all.Prince showed you could be Creative&Successful Hand&Hand back then.Hit&Miss with Me since 88 til now but the Guy has made a Mark you can't deny.I'll always Buy His stuff because He was So On Point while I was Growing up.same with MJ,Rick James,Stevie,EWF,etc.. if I truly dug your stuff then I'm down for Life with Your Work.I ain't saying I'm expecting anything Great though it would be nice but I got your Musical back. mistermaxxx

Just knowing other musicians I respect and like i.e.(D'Angelo) is just more confirmation to me that I am not alone in knowing where it's at. Oh yeah and the only funk Madonna posesses is in her panties! [This message was edited Thu Aug 15 16:04:17 PDT 2002 by adorable2]
