Bob Dylan - Prince Encounter

Can someone help me. I have a friend who is a big Dylan fan, and I think I have read somewhere in the past that Bob wanted to meet Prince, but Prince turned down the offer. Can someone verify this or provide a link. I hope I am not dreaming this stuff up!

'tis true. relevant bit from the prince geek's bestest friend (in the form of a reference book), the vault:

9th March 1981

Prince plays Sam's in Minneapolis, the first concert of a month-long, 20-date club tour. Bob Dylan attended the Sam's show and wanted to meet Prince afterwards. However, Prince wasn't interested and turned him down.

That is sooooo LAME!

Prince could learn some serious lessons from Bob Dylan.

Ok...I've been lurking for awhile, but I've never posted. I was a little reluctant to post this question, so I emailed another Dylan-Prince fan first to get his take on it. Does the song Fury remind anyone else of something Dylan has put out? I say "something" because I can't quite put my finger on it-whether it is a specific song or the style of delivery. I have an idea of which song it possibly is, but would like some other opinions.

Thank you, everyone.

But I think Prince said he was too nervous at that time and has met him since then.

I'm a Dylan-Prince fan as well and nothing springs to mind, though it does sound like something he might do. biggrin

Hi, syrinx. Welcome. Don'be be shy about posting. Most times you're ignored anyway. It's rather cliquey in here.

Anyway, I too heard a slight Dylan influence in his songs, and I posted the same question on the old NPG forums, "DOES PRINCE LISTEN TO BOB DYLAN?" I got the same response...nobody else heard the influence. Another older song that reminds me of Dylan is "Rasberry Beret."

Fury=All Along The Watchtower. The lyrics are eerily reminiscent

Yes to both...I was thinking "When the Night Comes Falling from the Sky" or "Seeing the Real You at Last"...

I always thought Dorothy Parker was up there with some of Dylan's "dream" songs or ethereal stories. It's one of Prince's best songs, musically, vocally and lryically, but lyrically speaking can be done so many ways and i always foudn the story telling similar to Dylan, perhaps "isis" and maybe even "Tangled up in Blue"!

Any thoughts?

It instantly reminded me of The Hurricane.

Could you imagine a Prince-Dylan duet or collabo...

That would be amazing! biggrin (Assuming they don't get caught up in egos and everything)

"Sign O' The Times" is very Dylanesque in phrasing and delivery.
