NPGMC Save my Soul!!!

HOLD UP WAIT A MINUTE!!!

I'm getting tired of waiting around for P 2 release something or do something 4 the fams of the world.

He has the NPGMC.

This is the perfect place 4 him to reach his fams...to provide daily/weekly/monthly updates on what he's doing musically, spiritually, etc. He can release everything from the vault : songs, qtime movies of aftershows, new music even.

He can comment on current events, he can post unreleased pics, documents, anything that will make his fams happy.

He can try and make his fams feel like they are respected by him.

He's not doing any of this.

This disappoints me.

I know that when i paid my $100 all i was getting was my 4 CD's by the end of the year. He can deliver the remaining 3 CD's on December 31st and keep his promise.

But he could do more...much more.

But why isn't he doing more???

Does he not care???

Is it all about the $$$ and not the art???

Is he having 2 much fun with Manni in Toronto 2 care???

I wish someone could answer my questions.

Prince raised me!

His songs educated me like my parents never could. He got me my first kiss! I lost my virginity thanks 2 him! You understand what i'm saying? He was there 4 me thru think and thin but now...

I feel an emptiness, a void that he has left.

I'm not a negative person...far from it.

But after seeing the personal video diaries that Kylie Minogue leaves on her website, or the soundcheck footage that Britney puts up on her website - what about the daily setlist info that Simple Minds post on their site when on tour???

I can't help but feel slightly cheated out of my dedication and 'fandom' 4 Prince. It seems everyone else is getting some love from their popstar...but we r left in the dark...

Hope i've made some sense...i just needed 2 get that off my chest.

You make perfect good sense!
But al we can do is hope and wait what he plans for us the next 7 months.

And to be honoust I´d rather have one cd in six months from Prince than all the stuff Britney, Kylie, Bjork and the Simple Minds put on their websites everyday. Don´t forget what Prince does for his fans at the Celebration!!!

Your view (about NPGMC site updates) is gradually turning into the general consensus around here derek. Prince certainly does things differently to other artists. I have had similar feelings of frustration. The CDs I am prepared to wait for. News, surprise downloads, extras, retail items seem to be very thin on the ground and I have no clue why.

Perhaps it is because Prince still has a natural bias towards his newest, latest, music. Anything a few years old becomes irrelevant as an insight into his current vibe. Having said that his beef with WB was often reported as being about them not releasing this very music when Prince wanted it to be. Now he has this opportunity and he doesn't do this. (well not this year at any rate, last years monthly downloads seemed a little closer to this vision).
I don't think the philosophy of the internet helps either. We all are so used to information and news being a few clicks away, (whereas before the www we perhaps got a quarterly or monthly fanzine/newsletter or had to watch the newspapers or MTV like hawks) it is puzzling why up to date nuggets about our favourite artist are so hard to find.

He certainly is an enigma. We can only wait and see. I suppose it seems all the more valuable and exciting when new stuff does come out.

We are all eager for our next "fix" wink
Just somewhere in the middle,

Essence

I can only assume Prince hasn't started the ball rolling on his website yet. He's always been interested in Cyber World so surely an excellent, regularly updated NPGMC site is just around the corner...?

derek, there's also another piece of sad news...

NPGMC's year does not end December 31st - it ends in January... so we'll be waiting even longer rolleyes

although I do hope I'm mistaken

Well, at the end of the day, NPGMC's "ideal" way of "freeing the music" leaves the listeners in the lurch. I miss the days when the music industry was screwing Prince over, and we at least got decent access to the music.

I'm gonna give you some advice. This is th ebest time to listen to something other than PRINCE.A chance to be weaned(sp)off his breastmilk.A couple of years ago my girl took me to Sting's brand new tour concert.I had my mind closed and didn't think much of sting.HE BLEW ME AWAY with that show. Now i have a ton of his boots and most of his albums. Now i listen to all KINDS of music. This could be the best thing that ever happened to you.Go to the store or online and check some new music out.YOU WILL BE MOVED!!!
And when i say something new it doesn't have to be this watered down stuff of today. The old school has tons of good stuff(just like the prince catalog wink ).ENJOY and you can thank me later.

Its not like he's just been sitting around watching TV all year.

In the year so far ,he has:

1.Arranged and performed a tour of the US.This tour probably wasnt as easy to arrange as previous ones as he had to juggle three different lead horn players for different dates and insure that the NPGMC seating was handled properly.

2.Arranged a week long event at PP with several guests.I wasnt able to attend but, from the reports I've read on this site ,this was the best one yet.

3.Supposedly,he also got married .A new wife (or any new relationship for that matter) can also place demands on whatever free time he has.

4.He (probably) still spends a few hours a day in the studio working on new projects.

Dont get me wrong.I find this years edition less exciting than last years as well. And I agree the site could be maintained a little better than it has been.I'm just pointing out that he has been very busy this year so far.
It seems obvious to me ,in the last two years anyway, that Prince is trying to be more accessable to his fans and give them what they want.He cant please everyone.

Hey, I enjoy Sting too! Nice to hear that your mind was opened at his concert. Very complex music with diverse influences. Profound composer. And he puts on a good concert - because like Prince, he loves to play. Although he can't beat Prince in the length of his performances - even though he has sometimes come close. And he can't beat Prince's personality and love for his fans.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Amen!!! I think he is trying very hard to please fans and you just can't please everyone. I also think he is very involved with everything and doesn't delegate much so that has its advantages as well as disadvantages. But given that so many artists and politicians are actually "made" by others - it's nice to get the "real thing" with Prince.
