Do you feel that Prince changed music?

Prince started something called the "Minneapolis Sound" that kind of changed the world of music, listeniing to Janet Jackson"s new album or Mint Condition's
most recent work, one tries to find echos of the sound he created, question is ,does it still exist in music today from rap to r&b to rock ,etc Do you feel that Prince's signature sound and talents have changed music and people's thinking about music like a Mozart or Beethoven, and that Prince does'nt get any props

I think all the r&b and hip hop of today (this moment) would sound different if Sign O' The times had not come out in '87. Seems like all of the popular music in those genres is made by producers who were and are deeply influenced by that album.

I agree whole-heartedly with that.

Though, looking at commercial music in the current day.... I'm still undecided if it's a good or bad thing. razz

Yes and no.

If you listen to a lot of the music back then ALOT of it soundwise could be contributed to him. Many of the R&B producers of the came from his camp or worked with his camp and they all influenced each other, with Prince, of course in the lead of much of that sound.

Today, mmm I think 2006 is so far removed from the old days, that it's hard to tell where a lot of it comes from. I will say quite a few folks around are pulling out the P influence...like Timbaland, Andre and Beck. However the majority of the current musical landscape doesn't seem to be drawing influence off of anything in particular but each other...certainly not the past.

But what is really an influence? Or influential music? Considering that P is heavily influenced by James Brown, George Clinton, Jimi Hendrix, Little Richard, Joni Mitchell.

oh no! ALL of CURRENT R&B/hophop music is more like Prince's then it was back then! Back then his sound was way out there, minimalist, mechanical beat driven, dry.... NOW everything has that style.

these are not the aspects of the mix, and sounds that are relevant in considering influence, I'm focusing on what made this influences Prince, the forefront of the electronic beat, the minimal cartoonish pop hooks, and superloud embellishments, the dryness of the mixes, the eastern vibes that crept in, the pseudo classical flourishes...

Yes, I think that Prince changed music. He set the templates for some of the most recent hits...Neptune produced tracks are a prime example.
