I'm not sure that I totally agree with these claims. I think that yes Prince can be self-centered, but at times can't we all? I don't think that he is so self-centered however that he doesn't consider others. That's why you have such songs as SOTT and We March. He does think outside of himself. That is also why there is the Love 4 One Another charities, why certain songs were dedicated to the Katrina survivors and the money went towards that. If Prince were totally self-centered, then he would not be overly concerned about the world around him at all and as witnessed in many of his lyrics, that's just not the case. I think that his self-centeredness is more like that of a child. The child believes the world revolves around him/her BUT at the same time they are able to see others, show concern for others, and for the world around them. It's a very innocent type of self-centeredness. As for arrogance, given his talent, given his propensity for writing music, I think the man deserves some arrogance because honestly, I've yet to see anyone else touch him in the talent department.But yet at the same time, I don't see him as someone who thinks he is superior to others. I think perhaps with his talent, yes, but I also think that his main reason for not wanting people to idolize him is because he doesn't believe he is superior to others.

As for stubborness, to me that indicates someone who is not willing to change. Prince is far from that, as the man is constantly embracing change. He has even changed his religious beliefs after much studying. He has changed bands. He has changed his style of music to fit whatever mood he is currently experiencing. Being stubborn to me is not being willing to change one's mind about something, not being willing to change one's beliefs, it's clinging to something so tightly that you can't let go. Prince just doesn't do that. Now he may dig his heels in when it comes to wanting things done in certain way, or wanting something done by certain time, but that is more a factor of knowing what you want and when you want it, and does not indicate an unwillingness to change.

And naive? Prince isn't naive. He's seen quite a bit of the world, and experienced quite a bit of trauma in his lifetime. He's been around the block once or twice. I think though that Prince takes a child's eyed view of things. He is an idealist. He sees the world how it could be, should be, and knows that all it takes is Love 4 One Another to create that world, and that concept seems so simple to Prince and perhaps he doesn't understand how others can't see it or understand it too.

Anyway, this of course is just my .02 and may or may not be right.

You do realize that your initial description of Prince can apply to anyone of us? All of us have been guilty of the same thing at one time or another One more thing. This may come as a shock to you..but most artists are jerks! There isn't a musical genius out there who's a paragon of virtue and enlightenment. Such personalities, rather, can only be found in the realm of religion.
