This song is SO funky!! I was just wondering if everyone appreciated it as much as I do?? What other Prince songs are similar??? I'm thinking these would make a great playlist or even entire CD if there were more songs like these...

Glass Cutter is an example of Prince at his worst. I would like a musicologist to outline the framework of this work and post it in the RRHOF as what not to do.

Sexy MF got away with it, but really really.. , there only needed to be one for the purple guy. I think with GC, there are now at least 10?? Ouch.

funny how some people don't like it....but i think those are people who take him so seriously....you can tell this song was written in about an hour and that he was just messing around.....but even when he does that it still ends up being funky....but i can also see why people wouldn't like it....i just like the bass and can do without the soul claps

I just finished a morning run by cooling down with San Jose Jam followed by Glass Cutter. I love both of these tunes. I know opinions vary but I dig it the most.

The lyrics are not sophisticated (to say the least) but the song is jammin!

Somebody mentioned back then that "glass cutter" was a slang term for hard nipples.

It sounds like Prince is singing about a woman who is soft and supple. On the outside she is someone who is soft like butter, a sweet and inviting condiment. But when she speaks her words can be sharp so sharp that they can cut glass. Prince's purple fantasy just might be the Truth because it made his heart flutter. If he does tell it to her face, instead of waiting for another brother to, we might still hear a sequel.

Thanks for bringing this song up. I pretty much dismissed it as a whole lotta nothing when it first came out.

Just listened to it again.

As melodies go, this song still has nothing. But it's funky as hell!
