This is going to sound insane, but it comes from the highest source imaginable (and yes, it's probably who you think it is) and I am in a fortunate situation in which there are no restrictions keeping me from sharing the information I have just learned.

Basically, Prince has been quiet the past two years not because of the divorce or because of Universal, but for a more secret reason. He has been researching horses for a book he is writing (FINALLY!!!), full of essays and poetry about his passion for miniature albino ponies which began not long after the Musicology tour ended.

This is what I know:

Prince is writing a book called "Like A Pony Would" and it's going to be family-friendly. It will have an accompanying CD of instrumentals inspired by horses, and he will promote his book/CD heavily on television, including a two-hour special on Animal Planet which will have concert footage.

Also, I just found this out: The "egg" at Paisley Park? It's a multi-tiered stable. It's full of miniature albino ponies that he's had shipped from France, where there is a special breeder who produces the kind of ponies he's in love with.

He's kept this secret because he wants to promote the project right in order to do justice to the animals. From what I understand, this whole new equestrian side of Prince is what drove Mani away and what has kept Prince distracted from honoring his obligations to Universal, but he doesn't care. You know how Prince is when he's obsessed with something. He's demolished his love life and his career but he thinks this new direction will redefine him to his fans and the general public alike.
