I think Ben and the team realised the star rating system didn't mean an awful lot. If you remember there used to be a group of "Highest Rated" thread titles on the homepage. Now we just have most active and most recent.
I don't take the star rating to mean that a thread is well thought of or not. Some people rate things seriously, others do it to make a point (probably have something against the poster), sometimes its just a gag (like 2the9s used to post a messages saying "Zero Stars!  ")
Compare the amount of replies to views to how many have given a star rating. In most cases the number of star "votes" is the lowest number of the three. Right I'm off to find a thread to give zero stars. I think I have one in mind. It has the words Black, People and Ruining in it!  Just somewhere in the middle,

Some people just have nothing better to do than go on the internet and try to piss off total strangers. Fighting over the internet is a complete waste of energy.
BUT,there is no excuse for racist remarks/threads. It does nothing but hightlight that person's supreme ignorance. I also visit other boards (non-Prince) where that crap is NOT tolerated. And what I don't understand is that this forum is a lot stricter, in general, than the other ones I visit. Hell, we can't even put up an avatar without having it approved here. By the way...Racism is NOTHING to be ignored. Even if this is "just a website"..its still something to get pissed off about. I reported the two msgs to Ben..and they were locked..and one of the guys was suspended.

And like Vashti, I felt today was not the day for silent protest. I usually ignore threads with the word 'black' (in context of people, not the album ) in the title, or when racist threads are posted and I accidentially (spelling please ) enter them I press the panic button and not give the poster a second of light.
But I come to this site to read about Prince and I like what most people are posting - even when it is not related to Prince... I do not come here to read blatant ignorant racism. And today I just had enough of it. Tomorrow I probably will protest in silence again. But I will not forever protest in silence. And none of us should... |
