No, you don't need permission. Any song can be re-recorded as long as it's not changed and as long as the usage fee is paid to the owner.

Kinda like how Whitney Houston recorded I'm Every Woman. Chaka didn't want that, hence, she mad.

she REAL mad.

Why would P be upset that she recorded a song and made him even more money?

I'm sure Sinead has her own line of reasoning for things but you don't mess with The Pope and you don't want Frank Sinatra after you.

you know...i know o'conner can be a bit crazy but i have nothing but applause for her fight against the pope...she tried her best to bring attention to the world the pope's refusing to investigate child molestation allegations...it took a mother's frustration (and a catholic at that) to stand up to the world and declare war on a man who was allowing abuse to exist under the pretense of God.

it took ten years for people to realize the horros that the catholic church had caused...think about how many children's youth would have been saved if people would have listened to Sinead...

instead you had punch ass bitches like Sinatra and Hammer postering...

GIVE. ME. A. Fuckin. BREAK!!!

I think Sinead is one of the BEST examples ever of a Celebrity with a message who just gets fucked cos they don't think out the best way to get that message across...

Exaclty..Handclaps your thoughtfulness and levelheadeness never suprises me. CLONE YOURSELF...please!

lol

I just thought about why people still think that shit is true. Cuz people love shit, they love problems, gossip etc. Life is like a big fucking high school where people never grow up and want to constantly hear shit about others to make themselves feel better. 'Tis life I guess. Another reason is that people tend to believe anything they hear and read. Hence opinion being mistaken for fact and why people are so easily misled.

I think that there may be truths to the story like prince laughing at her ect.. I really like Sinead's music and her passion (like riping up the picture of the pope) but she definatly can make up stories as she is a passionate woman who thinks she is fighting the world...eg one story she made up around the time that she was a lesbian and i think something else about childhood rape which now she denies either 2 things ever were the case...??? Eccentric = Yes threatened by Prince proberly not.

Who knows. Both of these people are artistic geniuses in my book. But sadly they are both a few fries short of a happy meal.

I believe that they both believed their own version of the events to be true. How much of that is based in what we all accept as reality, I'll never know.

Prince and Sinead both have their own, um, "unique" outlook on things. This does not make for accurate recounting of events on either part.

Frank was incensed over Sinead and the national anthem. Not the "Pope" protest.

It's pretty shocking and gives you a sick feeling in your stomach. Prince not only threatened to beat the shit out of her and even started laughing at her crying!
I believe it's 100% true; she is still upset by it as well(recent concert shouting back at fan'fuck that midget').

There's no excuse for threatening violence. This was not the first time Prince held someone against their will; HE SHOULD OF TOLD HER TO LEAVE AND GET IN THE LIMO; NOT SEND THE LIMO AWAY TO FRIGHTEN HER!!!

This story is garbage. How interesting, noone calls the cops during or after these so-called incidents, yet they run and tell a newspaper? If someone threatened you like that, you next coarse of action is to do an interview? Bullshit story.

oh yeah...cause everytime tina turner was beat down she was always calling the police...in fact, the majority of women, when harrased, do just that...they go to the police...

Oh is that what this is? Was this story about spousal abuse, domestic violence and all the emotional and psychological elements attached to it? Is that what we are looking at here between Sinead O'Conner and Prince? And at least Tina Turner spoke outright about it. Did these words come straight from Sinead O'Conner in a spoken interview or was this a "quote" in some tabloid article? Point is, I don't buy into media stuff too well, I would need more proof to determine if it actually happened.

Anything is possible. Neither of the two are paragons of sanity. That song was beneficial for both of them. It made Sinead's career. Prior to that song, I never heard of her and couldn't name another one of her songs. I'm guessing Prince got paid for the cover, so what's the problem? O'Connor did better with her cover than Cyndi Lauper's version of When You Were Mine...
