Prince wasn't talking about what he thought of homosexuality when he said that. He was saying that he didn't care about whether or not other people thought he was gay. Really Oprah said "so people think you're crazy or you're gay.." and his response to that was "whatever floats the boat."
He knows who he is.

None of us knows what his view on homosexuality was at that time but we sure know it now don't we?
Prince (not Oprah related) said that he wanted a "practical" understanding of the Bible. Instructions for living. One of those instructions is "don't have sex with people who are the same gender as you." I ain't no Bible scholar, so please forgive me if I didn't get that right.

Here's the funny part though.....The Bible ALSO tells men that not only is it sinful to lay down with another man as you would a woman.... it says it is even sinful for a man to LOOK or DRESS like a woman and BEHAVE in a feminine manner. Anybody see where I am going with this????? lol lol lol lol

This would explain Prince's attempts in 2001-2004 to look more 'mannish'. The suits, the more bushy unplucked eyebrows, that teeney weenie afro he had in the Musicology video. Remember that pinstriped get up he wore to some basketball game with Mani? The change in footwear (those awful wedges?)
I guess he just later accepted that he is never going to be perfect. So he lightened up a bit on the 'manly transformation' there. Religion is a tough thing to commit to when you been acting like a heathen for 25 years. lol

I dont recall reading in the bible about it being wrong to dress like a woman. where? Prince wore suits back in 1986...remember the yellow one in the anotherloverholeinyohead video? He dresses how he wants. He is older now and prefers suits over the more risky clothes he used to sport.
As far as the Oprah interview..he was basically saying.."hey, people can believe what they want about me" when he stated, whatever floats the boat.
Nevertheless, since becoming a jw, he now views homosexuality as wrong, rightfully so.

Oh it's in there. I might be wrong, but I think it's Leviticus. At any rate, though I'm not exactly the most church-going of the lot of us, I do remember reading in the Bible that men aren't supposed to dress like women and vice versa. I think that rule's pretty well moot though, because clothing and what's accepted for the genders can change so much over time.

i been listenin to all this prince is gay talk what r his views on homoness talk did he ever fuck a man talk why does he hang with women talk so much and quite frankly, u guys will never get a satisfactory answer as long as u r thinkin that sexuality has anything to do with the physical aspect of who we r.

just cuz someones got a vagina or a penis doesnt mean their spirit does too but sure, one matches the other perfectly but fact is we aint one or the other no matter what our gender is.

SPIRIT IS ANDROGENOUS so whateva floats ur boat on a VIBE level like today i was cropping some shots of photos i took of very gorgeous women and so i used my MALE EYE, and tomorrow when i crop shots of photos i've taken of boys i'll use my FEMALE EYE.

i can get as turned on by a woman as i can a man, dont make me lesbian, its just my SPIRIT doing what it SHOULD by stepping forward and RECOGNISING BEAUTY in anyone truly gorgeous on the inside no matter what the gender.

doesnt mean i wanna fuck em. i make love with my Mind. x

Okay, please correct me if I'm wrong, but has anyone ever heard the song 'sister' off of Prince's Dirty Mind album

When he sings the part, she's the reason for my uh-sexaulity

To me, it sounds like he's saying 'my bisexuality'

If you really want to know if an artist is gay/bi or whatever, just read their lyrics...in most of Prince lyrics, he seems to have hetrosexual tendencies??

I seriously think that maybe Prince, was bicurious at one point, maybe around the time of his controversy CD

But I think he seriously perfered women to men

He actually said 'the reason for my uh-sexuality' but its sounds like bisexuality....I write poetry all the time, and I know that I always use 'codewords' for certain things, and I leave it up for people to comprehend theirselves

I was only 16 but I guess that's no excuse
My sister was 32, lovely, and loose
She don't wear no underwear
She says it only gets in her hair
And it's got a funny way of stoppin' the juice
My sister never made love to anyone else but me
She's the reason for my, uh, sexuality
She showed me where it's supposed to go
A blow job doesn't mean blow
Incest is everything it's said to be
Oh, sister
Don't put me on the street again
Oh, sister
I just want to be your friend
I was only 16 and only half a man
My sister didn't give a goddamn
She only wanted to turn me out
She [took a whip to] me until I shout
"Oh, [motherfuckersjustamotherfucker]
Can't you understand?"
Oh, sister
Don't put me on the street again
Oh, sister
I just want to be your friend
I know what you want me to do
Put me on the street
And make me blue
Oh, sister, oohoohoooow

I guess until he makes an explicit comment on it, we'll never know. That said, Id like to think that all the stuff he said and did in the early part of his career wasn't just shock tactics, and that there was a meaning and intent to what he was doing. I guess Id like to think that he was trying to make a statement that it doesnt matter whether you're straight or gay. He definitely went for a look that pushed that question "is he gay", and the only reasoning in my mind is that he wanted to push boundries. This is a man that wore panites, stockings and stilletos and not by accident. He knew what he was doing was going to provoke discussion and he was clear about his message.

Listen to Uptown - thats pretty much his statement of intent right there, and that sends out a message of "whatever floats the boat" - one that I'd apply to his views on homosexuality too:

"Everybody's going Uptown - that's where I wanna be
Uptown - U can set your mind free, yeah
Uptown - keep your body hot
Get down - I don't wanna stop, no!

Now where I come from, we don't give a damn
We do whatever we please
It ain't about no downtown, nowhere bound, narrow-minded drag
It's all about being free "

Until he does make that explcit statement we wont know, people will apply their own interpretations based on what they want to hear, but it seems far more unlikely that a man that has always preached peace, tolerance and open mindedness through his music, would privately be a bigot.

regardless of whether he intitated the thing or not, it started a long trend that he didnt give up, even when successful, which was to promote a very androgynous image to the public. Prince is straight enough to promote himself as so if he wanted to, to avoid the inevitable questions/ assumptions "is he gay?", but he chose not to. He got off on playing this card (If I was Your Girlfriend), and all i can assume is that there was reasoning behind it. And it aint to do with having a downer on Gay people - or so I assume.

I cant have helped his career to have done so - didnt walmart ban the Lovesexy album because of its extremely homo-erotic cover art?

Different things though aren't they - priests who do such things are hiding behind the mask of religion to conduct themselves in ways they feel repressed. Its uncommon for bigots and racists to go around preaching things they dont believe in. They may not admit to their prejudices, but to openly promote the things they dont believe in is extremely strange.

Like I said before, it comes down to your own interpretation, as we simply dont know who prince is on some/many things.

Good point, but again thats purely speculative. Maybe its naive, but ive always believed musicians had a higher level of sincerity than politicians - there is less pressure to say certain things, alot more freedom to be themselves. Im not blind to the huge PR smokescreens that are put up around some artists, but I've always seen Prince as his own man. He says and does what he thinks. Im not saying the man's not driven by success or money even, but i think he'd only compromise so much.
