I always thought he was pretty open-minded about it, especially since he looks like a major queen himself. Then I read about his remarks about Wendy and Lisa. I don't know if he still feels that way but if he does, fuck him, he doesn't pay my bills and I'll do as I please whether he or anyone else likes it or not.

I don't believe for two seconds he'd actually say what he really thought. He's from Minneapolis!! When he was in high school, no one was out of the closet, without fear. Gays in that part of the country didn't exist in the mid 70's.
Unless Minneapolis was more progressive than I think??

I think that must have been what he meant to express with that comment.

Prince wasn't talking about what he thought of homosexuality when he said that. He was saying that he didn't care about whether or not other people thought he was gay. Really Oprah said "so people think you're crazy or you're gay.." and his response to that was "whatever floats the boat."

None of us knows what his view on homosexuality was at that time but we sure know it now don't we?
Prince (not Oprah related) said that he wanted a "practical" understanding of the Bible. Instructions for living. One of those instructions is "don't have sex with people who are the same gender as you." I ain't no Bible scholar, so please forgive me if I didn't get that right.

Here's the funny part though.....The Bible ALSO tells men that not only is it sinful to lay down with another man as you would a woman.... it says it is even sinful for a man to LOOK or DRESS like a woman and BEHAVE in a feminine manner. Anybody see where I am going with this????? lol lol lol lol

This would explain Prince's attempts in 2001-2004 to look more 'mannish'. The suits, the more bushy unplucked eyebrows, that teeney weenie afro he had in the Musicology video. Remember that pinstriped get up he wore to some basketball game with Mani? The change in footwear (those awful wedges?)
I guess he just later accepted that he is never going to be perfect. So he lightened up a bit on the 'manly transformation' there. Religion is a tough thing to commit to when you been acting like a heathen for 25 years. lol

Prince trying to be butch was about as succesful as Bush trying to be a good president. ill

You've brought up a good point. I don't claim to know what his views on the topic are, but words can't express how hypocritical he'd be if he does have a problem with queerness but still parades around in makeup, heels, and pretty clothes.

I don't know about that. The day's long since past that it was cool for a man to dress like a girl. He's doing it now 'cause he wants to.

Justin1972UK

The androgyny in his lyrics faded away during the early to late nineties. When he did make direct comments towards homosexuality in his music, the sentiment was ambiguous:

"He's gay", used 2 mean "He's happy". Nowadays, happy ain't allowed.

I still can't make my mind up as to what the 'Chaos And Disorder' lyric is trying to say. It's obviously about gays in the U.S. military but is it pro or anti?...

Then from 'Peach' there was:

Turn a gay, preacher to a sinner...

It's a jokey song, but the inference that the woman he's singing about is so "peachy" that she could turn a gay man straight, leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. It's a sexual stereotype many older people still believe, that many gay men would magically become heterosexual if they just found the right woman...

Then from 'Come On' there's:

20 days in London
And U ain't gimme no love
Could it be another brotha man
That U're thinking of?
Or could it be your girlfriend
Who never ever been straight
When I ask U - "Are U hungry?" (Hungry)
U say U already ate (Ooh)

The inference here is that if a woman doesn't want to sleep with him, it's inconceivable that she'd rather be with another man - so she must be a lesbian! People always cite 'Bambi' as being possibly offensive, but it's nowhere near as machismo as the above lyric. In 'Bambi', Prince doesn't get the girl because she's a lesbian. In 'Come On' he's already got the girl but is jealous/suspicious of her gay girlfriend to the point of using a lewd joke to punctuate his accusations. Love the song though. boxed

Something happened around the time of Musicology for him to sing 'Controversy' in concerts again; Hook up with Wendy & Lisa again; Add the "Straight / Gay - Division" chant to 'United States Of Division'... I can't help but think that Mani had more of an influence on him than we'd care to believe.

i can get as turned on by a woman as i can a man, dont make me lesbian, its just my SPIRIT doing what it SHOULD by stepping forward and RECOGNISING BEAUTY in anyone truly gorgeous on the inside no matter what the gender.

doesnt mean i wanna fuck em. i make love with my Mind. x
So what happens when animals are your subject?
For the most part, I agree with you except the part about being turned on by the subject. Turned on by the act of creating, interpreting, capturing or even by beauty itself, but not the subject.

I don't get using a male eye to shoot a woman and the female eye to shoot the guy...that makes it all a sexual/gender thing. Why not draw from the spirit of whatever is there and intrepret that for what it is?

I dont recall reading in the bible about it being wrong to dress like a woman. where? Prince wore suits back in 1986...remember the yellow one in the anotherloverholeinyohead video? He dresses how he wants. He is older now and prefers suits over the more risky clothes he used to sport.
As far as the Oprah interview..he was basically saying.."hey, people can believe what they want about me" when he stated, whatever floats the boat.
Nevertheless, since becoming a jw, he now views homosexuality as wrong, rightfully so.

Prince (despite what Larry thinks/believes) have make peace with Wendy & Lisa about this a lot time ago. And I think the Girls are still gay (but not lovers among themselves).
