Prince's view on homosexuality

Remember the Oprah interview when she asked Prince what he thought about the rumors of him being gay?
He said something along the lines of: ‘hey, whatever flows the boat.”

I really liked that comment. The fact that your sexuality is your own business and no one should judge you because of it.
I think that must have been what he meant to express with that comment.

Still not sure though what his views on homosexuality was at that time. And now, since he’s a Jehovah ’s Witness…well, I guess we all know what their view on same gender sex is.
A friend of mine, also gay was cast out of his community for being gay. His family were all Jehovah’s witnesses and they did not hesitate to exclude him.

Prince must have a huge gay fan base as well. Any views on this whether he gives a damn.

Before he met Larry graham Prince had no prejudice towards gay people; alan leeds even said this. NOW HOWEVER he views it as wrong and like all religious people who are in a dictatership he thinks gays are going to burn in hell!

U've already stated Prince's view from that interview...about the rumors of him being gay.
It's more or a less a denial, but hey if that's what some people wanna believe...

I think that has a lot to do with it. It's a non-commital comment that's guaranteed not to alienate anyone. That comment doesn't convey his 'view' on homosexuality at all.

prince seems to be very mercurial in his beliefs, subscribing 100% to an idea one minute, then completely changing his tune the next. that said, i think he knows where his bread is buttered, and that's why we've never heard any intolerant or disparaging remarks about homosexuality in his music. he's not madonna, but a huge slice of his fanbase is LGBT. and let's face it - money isn't straight, gay, black, white, male, female or whatever. it spends the same way no matter who's giving it to ya. so it's behoovey of prince not to piss off any of his demographic.

Back in the day Prince gave the impression that he was homosexual or bisexual and didn't care who knew so now I think the JW's have put a damper on his beliefs along with everything else.

i been listenin to all this prince is gay talk what r his views on homoness talk did he ever fuck a man talk why does he hang with women talk so much and quite frankly, u guys will never get a satisfactory answer as long as u r thinkin that sexuality has anything to do with the physical aspect of who we r.

just cuz someones got a vagina or a penis doesnt mean their spirit does too but sure, one matches the other perfectly but fact is we aint one or the other no matter what our gender is.

SPIRIT IS ANDROGENOUS so whateva floats ur boat on a VIBE level like today i was cropping some shots of photos i took of very gorgeous women and so i used my MALE EYE, and tomorrow when i crop shots of photos i've taken of boys i'll use my FEMALE EYE.

i can get as turned on by a woman as i can a man, dont make me lesbian, its just my SPIRIT doing what it SHOULD by stepping forward and RECOGNISING BEAUTY in anyone truly gorgeous on the inside no matter what the gender.

doesnt mean i wanna fuck em. i make love with my Mind. x

As I've not heard him really comment on this directly since his induction to the JW thing, I have no idea what his real views are. There were plenty of rumors swirling for a while. All I can go by is his re-connection with Wendy and Lisa during Musicology and hope that indicates that whatever he may believe at this time, it is at least somewhat tolerant and respectful.

I don't think any of us really know. I think almost all of us hope that he is ok with homosexuality but his JW beliefs could be a problem.

That said, he *has* reconnected with Lisa and Wendy. In addition, at the Charlotte, NC Hit-n-Run show in November 2000 (AFTER adopting JW beliefs), Prince had a monologue in which he said that we are all one and he included "straight or gay" in his comments.

Once again, Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe in 'Hell', so this comment must be inaccurate.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe in an immortal spirit or soul that survives death in order to be punished or tormented.

This is correct. The statement was made (according to Possessed) when the Revolution was still togeather

However, there as another blurb in possessed that occurred much later (and from what I remember after being exposed to JW beliefs) supposedly from Bobby Z about a possible Revolution reunion. It was mentioned that the only way he would consider playing with Wendy and Lisa is if they gave up the gay lifestyle. Since he has played with them since either a) he changed his mind or b) it was never said.

So what happens when animals are your subject?
For the most part, I agree with you except the part about being turned on by the subject. Turned on by the act of creating, interpreting, capturing or even by beauty itself, but not the subject.

I don't get using a male eye to shoot a woman and the female eye to shoot the guy...that makes it all a sexual/gender thing. Why not draw from the spirit of whatever is there and intrepret that for what it is?
Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify

He sang about it in the unreleased version of 'If I Was Your Girlfriend'

Why can't we have a three-way in lime Jell-o?
If I was your girlfriend we could.
Here, let Camille pour the warm water.....

This just in Busta is doing a remake called "If I Was Your B****"

It irritates me a bit when people refuse to comment on their stance on gays. To me, it means he's opposed to it to some degree, and just doesn't want to rattle the hornets nest by stating so publicly.

As far as his femininity in the 80's, in some ways that doesn't really count. Practically every musician was gender bending and dressing like a woman in the 80's. It wasn't really reflective of the artists individual interests, but rather a general fashion trend.

It's difficult to say if his JW beliefs have affected his views on gays. Kabbalah isn't crazy about queers from what I understand, and neither is Scientology. Madonna remained a huge fag hag, and John Travolta is taking over Divine's character in the remake of Hairspray.

Prince wasn't talking about what he thought of homosexuality when he said that. He was saying that he didn't care about whether or not other people thought he was gay. Really Oprah said "so people think you're crazy or you're gay.." and his response to that was "whatever floats the boat."
He knows who he is.

None of us knows what his view on homosexuality was at that time but we sure know it now don't we?
Prince (not Oprah related) said that he wanted a "practical" understanding of the Bible. Instructions for living. One of those instructions is "don't have sex with people who are the same gender as you." I ain't no Bible scholar, so please forgive me if I didn't get that right.

Here's the funny part though.....The Bible ALSO tells men that not only is it sinful to lay down with another man as you would a woman.... it says it is even sinful for a man to LOOK or DRESS like a woman and BEHAVE in a feminine manner. Anybody see where I am going with this????? lol lol lol lol

This would explain Prince's attempts in 2001-2004 to look more 'mannish'. The suits, the more bushy unplucked eyebrows, that teeney weenie afro he had in the Musicology video. Remember that pinstriped get up he wore to some basketball game with Mani? The change in footwear (those awful wedges?)
I guess he just later accepted that he is never going to be perfect. So he lightened up a bit on the 'manly transformation' there. Religion is a tough thing to commit to when you been acting like a heathen for 25 years. lol
