If Prince Never Created The PURPLE RAIn SONG and MOVIE Would He Have Been AS Successful?

what do you think his Succes would have been like if PURPLE RAIN didn't EXIST and he went from 1999 to ATWIAD?

Great freaking question!

You know you are likely to get a bunch of pompous opinions by opening this can of worms, right?

Well, here's mine:
I've often wondered how successful he would have been if it weren't for PR.
1999 is in my top five, but NOT ATWIAD. Many artists have a slump and then a recovery. I happen to like the campiness of Parade, but the masses weren't necessarily on that level with it. So at this point, (with out PR) I am thinking it's a matter of working through the contract and allowing one to be experimental. And then the golden ticket....SOTT!!!! My absolute favorite album/tape and cd (yes, I have owned every form of SOTT audio). As I understand it, many of you dig SOTT as well as others who don't really declare themselves fans. So, at this point (with out PR), he's back! But then there's LoveSexy...I liked some of the songs, but I don't always hear rave reviews of it. After that, I faded to black as a follower of his career. (I'm back now).

So the next question is, how many chances would the masses give Prince before his contract was either fullfilled or mysteriouly terminated (with out PR)? The "artists" today don't get many shots to be artistic before their contracts are mysteriously terminated.

(Am I making sense? I worked a 12hr day and it is almost 1am and I have to get up @ 5am to be somewhere @ 7:30am)

Yes the music CD would have been successful.

Unless compaired to the light of success that was on it.

In that case the answer would be no.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.
