if ur a lesbian or u've got friends who r, do u think Prince could convert you or your friends?

i understand the song may not be about that, but if it were, could he make u straight?

I'm not a Lesbian, but I play one on TV...er no. I remember showing the lyrics to a lesbian friend when I was in high school 20 years ago. She thought the lyrics were tedious. I agree with her, still. They reflect a common male misogyny and self absorbtion. The later T.C Ellis version trys to mask that misogyny in christian morality, but basically the song is disespectful to lesbians. You kind of get the idea that he wanted to write a racy song about the 'titilating' subject of lesbians and due to his lack of complex thinkig on the subject, "Bambi" is what he came up with.

"Bambi, can't you understand?
Bambi, it's better with a man?"

Of course the semi-obvious subtext of this statement is that Prince himself knows how much better it is with a man via his own sexual experiences with men. His own heterosexism and discomfort with his own queer sexuality and transgressive gender performance leads him to project this false duel between hetero-normativity and gay sexuality onto Lesbians.

I have quite a few gay friends and they're always trying to grasp onto anything that could be spun into "he's gay." I call them on the bullshit now, cause it's ridiculous.

Whats tedious is this calling Prince gay nonsense. As bold as he is, if he was gay, hed tell you. You wouldnt have to wonder or speculate. Stop projecting. Thats some tired, tedious shit.

And you can give it a rest.

If Prince cared what people thought of his sexuality, he wouldn't have been parading around in makeup and ladies' clothes all these years. What floats his boat is irrelevant, regardless of which gender it is doing the floating. Prince certainly isn't losing sleep because some people think he likes dick, so neither should you.

As for the song, it's just a young arrogant guy thinking he's got what it takes to "convert" a lesbian. Nothing more, nothing less IMO. Not an uncommon attitude, either. Plenty of people are still under the delusion that conversion either way is possible, or that people are only gay because they haven't found the right opposite sex fuck yet. shrug

Having sex with a woman? Well, he did say

i could be your girl or boy, i could be your toy

Guess that means he's willing to adapt to his partner's preferences. Groovy. smile

..and he was how old when he sung it 4 Ellen DeGeneres? lol

Seriously, saying ur 'not attracted 2 men' is quite a generalisation and a fairly closed mindset if u ask me.

not really. just because i'm not attracted to guys doesn't mean i'm closed-minded. it's very much the same way you'd think if someone were to find out that you aren't attracted to anybody who's the same sex as you are and be like "you don't like guys/girls? feh!" shrug

First of all, I don't belive Prince is 'gay'. I do believe he has had sex with men. I'm from Minneapolis. I've got all kinds of stories about Prince. Prince, before he became popular, used to be a regular at gay bars in Minneapolis, Clound 9 and The Salloon. I had an old boyfriend, who was about 10 years older than me, who told me that back in the day Prince actually stole a boyfriend from him. I used to be friends with Prince's personal assistant, who was gay, and I got other stories about that, too.

But whatever...I tried to bring this stuff up before on the org, and I TOTALLY got flamed... I actually think it's sorta ridiculous for you to correct your gay friends because Prince sets off their gaydar. I mean C'mon ON! The dude's like a fucking BLACK LIBERACE! Whatever, my observations about BAMBI are based on what I believe to be true about Prince.
