though of course the 7" version of I Would Die 4 U isn't really an 'edit',

That's a real shame.

I would say the full album versions of these are well worth getting:

I Wanna Be Your Lover

Delirious (actually the 12 inch version is the one to get)
Sign O' The Times (you're missing out on the great drumming near the end)
I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man (oh man, for years I was missing out on the fantastic guitar solo - totally changed my opinion of this song)

I am not buying this one. I literally had the Ultimate Prince in my hands but then realized I had all of this except the Hot Thing remix which I can live without so I put it back. I put all my vinyl 12" on my hard drive years ago. So for me, its simply not worth the $$ imo. I went home and made my own Ultimate Prince playlist for my iPod, which of course includes the long versions of Erotic City, Mountains, La La La Hee Hee Hee, Computer Blue, I Wish U Heaven, and a few other embellishments. Also, it includes absolutely no edits.

No one was sure what to respond I guess. Even I am wondering what you truly are asking. Disc One of Ultimate is "remastered" that's to say, they got all the seprate orginal tracks that they Own, and then they "edited" the tracks together to reastablish the song. They polished up the tracks and the finished Product.

Disc Two is edited in such a way as to be Mixed or Remixed as the case maybe.

I think Boris answered the question. The common use of the word "edit" when referring to songs is for the radio "edit" that's usually shorter than the album version.
