Your parents and Prince/Story about my dad My then 75 year old father had never seen Prince at all until I was looking at the tape of Prince's first appearance on Arsenio Hall, and he was seated on the couch and saw it too. This was the appearance where he played Cream and Purple Rain. At first he asked why was he dancing with other men (Tony M), then he wondered if he was gay, but by the end of the show he loved him. He finally admitted that he liked "Chris", (he thought his name was Chris) and I swear, almost every night he asked me to put in that tape of Prince on Arsenio. I got tired of that one so I played more videos of Prince, he saw his videos of his Ryde Divine show, where he played in Germany with Mavis Staples and the Steeles. He commented on how good Prince was. He died in 95 but died being a Prince fan.
Anybody's parent a Prince fan?

That's a nice story. My mom is a big fan but my dad only cares for a few songs.

neat dad!! my mom had never enjoyed Prince but when I was under 18 she accompanied me to 4 concerts and she respected him as an entertainer. I inturn had to go with her to 2 Lionol Richie shows and Tina Turner this was in the 80's of course and i enjoyed Mrs. Turner. My dad disses Prince as do my siblings but hey pops thinks Neil Diamond is the shizitt!!! Don't take life too seriously, noone gets out alive.

Damn, that's great! I wish that I had a sweet story like that about Prince and my dad. My dad use to beat the crap out of me whenever he found a Prince tape hidden somewhere in my room...This was all during the Purple Rain and the PMRC days...He used to rip out the tape and later I would go in the trash and splice it together...Damn, they were some rough times in my household...During this time, I was removed from my house for child abuse...There were problems and Prince was one of them...I still remember him finding the Dirty Mind cassette. Head, what the hell is this!!! It's kind of funny now, but life sucked back than...Aloha~

My parents love Prince's work. They even took me to see him on the Musicology tour.My mother actually introduced me to Prince when I was little. She saw Prince back on the Controversy Tour with my pop. She said that by the time Prince was through with his set everyone including the waiters were dancing around and screaming for more. There was even a guy who said "I don't care what nobody say, Prince is one bad motherfucker!"She tells me about it till this day and I never get tired of it (in fact I was I could've saw him back then!). But yea, my parents are big fans of his till this very day.

My mom used to always complain about how much money I spent on shows and Prince music like it was hers!....
She loves Atlantic City, so when he played there in '98, my sister and I decided to take her with us. We didn't tell her the tix were $250, because she would have flipped!! (mentioned that part in the 'spending' thread') Anyway, we were 4th row center, but before the show started, she was moaning and worrying about hitting the casino floor. By the end of the show, she was dancing in the aisle, totally having a blast!! She even had the nerve to ask when "WE" were going again! I had created a monster! "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

Well growing up, my parents were both hippies (when I was a small kid)...but by the time we got into the 80's we moved to LA and when Prince came out with Purple Rain I totally fell in love with him and his music and so did my bro, which meant that we used to "force" our parents to lsn to his music as well and they totally digged it, that is until they saw him perform....they both hated his style and provocative ways....but they still like his music, and whenever they hear his old songs they even sing along.
My parents rock musically! "When I want to hear good music, I write it myself"

That is a nice story. I don't know how anyone could see Prince perform live and NOT like it.

Dad respects him as a musician (esp. the stuff with the Hammond B3), but can't stand his act. He particularly hated a picture disc I had of Prince with long white lace gloves.
Mom is a different story. She's the one who got me hooked on 1999, and I finally was able to take her to her first Prince concert during Musicology. Not only her first Prince concert, but the tickets were absolute front row touching the stage.
