Key points to Prince's success
1. His ability to take elements, both musically and stylistically,from other performers/musicians/eras and blend them into his own unique style and sound. Prince seems familiar, yet different at the same time. 2. Building a certain image or mystique about himself. From day one, it seems as if Prince has calculated what his Prince persona was to be. If you think about it, many people still view him as the mysterious, weird, sexed up, genius persona that he created. 3. His work ethic. Jimmy Jam was once quoted as saying that it is scary when someone as naturally gifted as Prince is willing to work twice as hard as anybody else on top of it. Prince has an enormous work ethic. He busts his ass and makes it look easy. He also holds his fellow musicians to the same high standard. It seems as if, once you've been in Prince's band, you can play almost anywhere. i understand what u mean by the word success, but my definition is different.
2 me, 'success' is when u've co-created ur heaven on ur earth. anything less is a 'success substitute' 2 me. just bein honest. in terms of his musicianship, he's successful as a musician. all a musician has to do is make music, and if someone sings along to it and is made 'happy' by it, thats a big bonus which would vamp ur 'musical-success-meter' up a couple notches. but the ultimate success is more than that.imo.
