Alicia Keys: Shhhhhh

Hey.

So I saw Alicia Keys the other day. People when nuts when she went into How Come You Don't Call Me, and *I* went nuts when she went into that funky intro to Shhh. She didn't mention that either were Prince covers, which I thought was obnoxious, because they are fairly obscure, so nobody was gonna know that she didn't write them. Whatever. It was fun to see. She is quite good. It would be nice to see her in a non-arena tour.

Side note: Also saw John Mayer. He's gonna be remembered as one of the premier guitarists of our time. He was awesome. The John Butler Trio and Guster opened. Also very good.

Doves,
Mel!ssa

I don't really know about the situation in the USA but here in Europe, at least in Germany, the charts are full of cover songs. I mean, sometimes I think there ain't no f*cking new song anymore. Really bad are those techno-pop-with-an-80s-melody-or-vocal... mad

I can't understand how one could not mention the orginal creator of the song. At least Prince does it sometimes.

Sampling,Looping,Covers= More Lazy Practices by the business.keep things the same because we don't want a change to the Formula.it's sad here.well case in point we have that "American Idol" Show Billboard Magazine was quoted as saying that the Industry is looking for somebody to safe it&Blow up.it's really in a Funk here.

This is just like when Britney Spears did the whole "You have accessed the Britney Experience " in her concert and copied her outfit from her "Oops I did it again" video from Prince outfit on the cover of Rave

Or far worse, out and out theft that doesn't even try or pretend to be an original song. It's the most irritating thing in the world to my ears to hear "Aint no Stoppin Us Now", "Genius of Love", "Rock the Casbah" or anything by that "he's sells more records so he's 'better' than Prince" hack P.Diddy sold to us as "the new song from...".

They're not even TRYING with the "samples" anymore, and I use the term 'sample" very loosely.

Where's Terminator X when you need him?

...and FWIW, I've heard prince do "snippets" of other's tunes in the middle of or in between his songs. I don't see that as a big deal.

And I think Miss Jackson should kick her ass for copying her so much.

I heard from a reliable source that Janet hates her. She has a shirt that says "Spear Britney" but she won't wear it in public

Alicia Keys gives props to Prince all the time, At the BET awards she performed in a Hat like Prince, she had on a purple shirt with Prince's picture on it, Everything about her performance was Prince. They paid tribute to Ali, and she paid tribute to Prince at least in my view.
How you gonna get my back when you fronting.
