Shame on Prince for not knowing...

...that 'You've Got A Friend' was not written by James Taylor (who had a huge hit with the song in late 1970). The song was written by another great artist, Carole King. She wrote the song in 1968, and Taylor recorded it first, but her own version (from the classic Tapestry album was also a big hit in 1971. Thanks to Joey Coco and Suomynona at the freemyheart.com site, I was able to hear Prince & NPG's GREAT version of this song, but I was surprised to hear Prince introduce it as being written by James Taylor. Oh well, guess it was an honest mistake...just don't let it happen again, Prince! big grin

Oh well, Just like when Frank Sinatra said "Something in The Way" was his favorite Lennon/McCartney song...(it was written by George Harrison)

Or when that little racist Lauren Hill made that idiotic remark about how she'd rather her children starve before white people bought her records because white people just couldn't understand her music....meanwhile she's receiving an award for the cover of Roberta Flack's "Killing me softly"...a song Flack wrote about a WHITE MAN'S Music (she wrote it about her reaction to the first time she heard Don McClean in concert) now that's a shame.

Someone call Allanis Morrisette...I found something that's actually ironic she can write a song about(instead of all the non-irony in her song about irony)

Hey, is that ironic?

Hmmm. Sounds like an Elvis'-type rumor.

meanwhile she's receiving an award for the cover of Roberta Flack's "Killing me softly"...a song Flack wrote about a WHITE MAN'S Music (she wrote it about her reaction to the first time she heard Don McClean in concert) now that's a shame.

Nope. Roberta Flack is not the author of "Killing Me Softly".

true, true...

Actually Lori Leiberman is the person you are talking about regarding the Don McClean concert...The song was her idea after attending that concert. By the way her rendition of "Killing me softly with his song" is beautiful..I saw her in New York in the 70's..

It would be a rumor if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. And it might also be a rumor if my wife also hadn't seen it along will a room full of college freinds who proceeded to scratch up all their Lauren Hill CDs and send them back to the record company.

the trip out thing are the many stories I hear of folks not knowing things within the Business.Faith Evans was Singing the Re-Make of "Every Breath You take" with Puffy&His Crew&She said:Quote that White Guy sure can Sing who is He? the Guy was Sting. or Eve doing Her Re-Make of "Irresistible Bitch"&saying in a Interview that it sounds like something Prince would do? I Hear this so often.but Prince usually knows what He is Covering.the Guy has a Pop Music Elephant Memmory.

That wasn't even the point I was making in the first place. If you go back, I was merely pointing out, as staying with the thread's theme, how others have made worse (or at least funnier) trangressions than Prince for not knowing James Taylor didn't write whatever...I don't even like James Taylor! Can't stand his music!
But that's just me...

I've yet to be convinced of this. Same thing is STILL to this day being said by people who claimed they HEARD Elvis said what he said. If I hear her saying it I'll believe it. Otherwise the people I hear this from haven't been able to prove it to me. I'm not saying you in particular should prove it, because after all, this is the internet.

James Taylor and Carole king were good friends and went
on tour together back in the 70's. Didn't James write a portion of this song? If not,

This was a huge hit for Taylor. It was an easy mistake for Prince to make.
