SPLASH

cool

so what do you guys think of this song? it was one of the more
obscure outtakes i think. i certainly never heard it before it
was released on the npgmc all of a sudden.

i have to admit that it took me some getting used to, although
it certainly had some appeal from the first listen.

my only gripe is that the soundquality isn't top notch. i just
wish i could get this on an original pressed cd.

thinking that he could have included songs like Splash on the
1998 release of Crystal Ball instead of those remixes drives me
absolutely mad.

anyway, i wanted to know what you think about this song.

i think it's absolutely ace!

thumbs up!

This song has taken me a while to warm up to - using the name "Prince And The Revolution" when releasing it automatically put it with that era of his music, but the record-scratching in the background dated it to much later for me - I'm assuming the version we know is actually a 1998/1999 update of the original, to be placed on Roadhouse Garden. In the context of Roadhouse Garden it might have fit well, but I've never had great associations with the individual track.

Having said that, it was great to hear what was clearly an old song out of the blue, with no idea that it even existed before. This is what was so encouraging about the NPGMC in those days - a vision that unfortunately was not followed-through, since this was the only Revolution track we got, and this was in month 1 of the original NPGMC. I'd love to see some new way of being surprised with old tracks again, whether it's something like Crystal Ball, or a new download store - something...

I freakin' love this song!

woot!

Amazing how it had never been mentioned, or seen on any boots, all those years then - suddenly - it popped out of nowhere. eek

It's that killer intro, the Clare Fischer strings, the jazzy outro - everything.

And it's my username on Housequake. mr.green

Good choice! thumbs up!

It's a crappy, overblown song. I hated since from the day I downloaded it from NPGMC. It's everything I didn't like about the Revolution.

Yes there are a probably a great deal of songs from the Revolution era that we never knew existed that may just surface. Or could be that Prince made that song with a "Revolution" feel to make us think it was from that era. He could have recently made Splash just to prove that he could still produce that magical 80's sound that we all fell in love with. Makes one think hmmmmm.....

it seems very joni mitchell in it's melody and emotion. and it seems very revolution in it's arrangement... and has an vacation island rhythm.

Very cool!

Handel

Just before it finishes the song veers off into a completely different melodic direction to the point that it sarts to sound not unlike "If I Had A Harem" near the end. Strange.
