As Shakespeare said...

'Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.'
biggrin
Did any of you know this? (Sorry if this has been talked about already, but I hadn't.)

I'm assuming this is probably where Prince got it from. Unless this line originated from some bible verse I have never heard. eek

Shakespeare is one quotatious BAMF.

If you pealed back the pedals from this fine shaped rose, would it smell the same by any other name?
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

Shakespeare is very quotable, but the fellow behind "Hell hath no fury.."
("... Nor hell a fury, like a woman scorn'd") is William Congreve. It's from
his play The Mourning Bride, written in 1697. (Don't know
how interesting you find this - I just wanted to mention it).

Prince should have sung "What can I say Shakespeare or William Congreve hasn't said before?" in I Like It There!

If you want some Shakespeare that Prince has quoted, how about "All that glisters is not gold" from The Merchant Of Venice, Prince turns it into "All that glitters ain't gold" in Gold.

here's something else 'william' said.
i think it is a very apt response to the egoic male mocking attitude shown toward any woman when she's been scorned...x

this court doth make a mockery
sit me middled
eyes surround
on unassured ground so dusted grey
try me to kill the goodness
battles fought and livened people
surely madness be thine
not mine
powers lighted from suns of time befail nought
from death resist the caught
not by me
truly I say unto thee
my voices tingle my cells
and give to saving notions
born of potions delicate vile
how canst I bestow a threat to any kind in heart
lest I beget the power evil
so to turn upon thine own heads
foreto willst spin upon mine own
no choices grown from sunlight
only hail could pass by these
my sweet repose
though young and virgin still
my goodness saveth my soul
from cursed judgement of thine own making
not be of gods
nor my servants
as I serve but to one master
canst possible nigh be two
unlike the beasts in you
harrassment charge from thy lips
and swirl in currents bloodened down this pit
saving knowest I to be of mine own future
not by body breathing
yet by spirit flying
hear thine overzealous jealousy
my power cometh not to haunt you
merely jaunt thy souls to realise
petals pink doth line your veins
hast thou forgotten heritage uncut from time’s retreat
not by me
not by me
mirrored though you are in eyes that sparkle fair
reflecting snakes you feed with thine own hands
yourselves doth bake you raw
If fear of law begets thee
marketh me heretic
or saviour saint
this present be the former
latter to become in later days
whence essence of messages
voices willst call upon thine own ears
having mercy under countenance
of repentance thou dost save in nows
recall these words of foretelling
proven by futured points
In goodness of my youth

No, Prince is not the first one, but I didn't know what its origins were, if even Shakespeare. But of course, maybe you know a lot more than I do, so... it's nothing new to you. There sure are a lot of experts in this website. Pretty amazing! wink

Ahh, Shhh747 don't take it personal. We're all experts concerning everything on the Org. Join in. It's like one big dysfunctional family round here. There's a lot of pouncing on each other but it's just because we care. (the past statement should be read out loud with 49% truth and 51% sarcasm in your voice) biggrin

To quote a great poet from the 20th century:

Guard your folks who date your daughter
The sexy motherfucker's so fine, I'll drink her bath water

A long-legged 5-foot-8 packin' an ass as tight as a grape
I wanted 2 spit my game but said 2 myself, "Hmm, just conversate"

Cuz I'm usually quite the calm one
U never found me out prowlin', boy, I'm just havin' fun

But I had 2 change my state of mind 4 this behind
I bet if U throw that ass in the air, it would turn into sunshine
