Did JT watch Purple Rain before recording "Until the End OF Time"?

Give it up to Justin Timberlake. His new cd "Futuresex/Lovesounds" is quite impressive.
The Prince influence is heard throughout the cd. But take notice of the track "Until the End of Time" he makes it obvious he has been studying His Royal Badness. The great thing is, he pulls it off. Check it out; I think most Prince fans will appreciate the attempt

I have heard nothing but good things about this record...can't wait to check it out. One side note you should know better than posting that some other artists has done well with the Prince sound. These haters will chew that up.

Well there r definately a few Prince influenced factors in that album, like the backward drum track in Until The End Of Time, which sounds like the recording Apollonia plays in The Kid's room from Purple Rain, and of course there's the whole singing with a falsetto voice thing in more than a few of the songs in the album, but eye have 2 agree with sexxy it doesn't come close, not only cuz it sounds so damn electronic and manufactured, but it lacks that musical ingeniuity that Prince puts into his works.

I think the key point is about being derivative. Whilist prince often 'jacked' elements / identity from those aforemnetioned artists, at his best, Prince conjoured something that sounded and looked original. Maybe thats why its so hard to hear his 90's music or his music nowadays.

In relation, I think JT represents what is fundamnetally a 'producer-driven' artist. I mean whilie he has some input vocally/lyric and the dirction he wants to take, the sound and infleunces we are really getting stems from what his producers provide. In this instance namely Timberland.
