JESSE JOHNSON & PR1NCE

Jesse Johnson is just as good as PR1NCE primarily on guitar. Not only does he have the Hendrix sound, He was consistent as a guitarist. His Craft is SO AMAZING as a guitarist, especially the fact that he wrote songs like "Blondie", "Skillet" and "Jungle Love" for The Time. Anyone that disagrees has never heard his 1996 album "Bare My Naked Soul". Most mainstream rock bands couldnt make an album as good because they only practice enough to jump around on stage. I am waiting for Jesse to come out with the new album and tour this fall.

People used to ask me all the time who is better and I wouldnt comment. I am not saying that Jesse is better than PR1NCE...I am saying that as a guitarist, he is just as good and shouldn't be labeled as a Prince copycat. They both have different sounds.
In a way, Jesse sounds like Hendrix and Prince sounds like Santana.

I doubt anybody here has actually heard Jesse play guitar for any extended time, since the guy doesn't or hasn't toured. I don't know who has seen him live, but we have have seen Prince and we know that the little varmint can shred his ass off, to the point that he killed on fury. Actually, I would say, Miko was a better player then Jesse, as well.
All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

Awesome topic. As an orger said earlier, they are both great guitar players. Jesse more of a rocker and Prince a funkier more rythmic player. I personally prefer Prince because he really gets into the groove. And Prince is a fantastic rythmn guitar player. I guess as a hole Prince is much more versitle. I like jesse alot but he plays one style. Not saying that he can't play other styles, I've just never heard him play other styles. Prince wins.

That's right. No one can touch Prince as a hole. He is the ultimate hole.

I will take Jesse Johnson on guitar over Prince any day. I don't know where this "Prince is a genius on guitar" sentiment came from - he's nice and is capable of expressing himself, but I think he's a couple of notches ahead of Carlos Santana, who's 100 nothches beneath John McLaughlin.

All right now, this is a topic for me! excited Not only is Jesse as good as Prince, he is just as creative... And RIGHT if you have not listned to "Bare My Naked Soul" don't go saying what Jesse can or can not do. Of course He has some slight Prince influences, in his earlier stuff, (what do you expect) neutral Jesse is a multi-instramentalist and his style is his style. I would not call him a Prince copy cat, He just makes it do what it do guitar

Also , I have seen him live and the boy can cut up, I am not taking anything away from my Prince, cuz I love him to the bone, But I LUVS me some JESSE. I can't wait for his new stuff and the tour.

"Bare My Naked Soul"
if you don't have it, you better get it!

Oh HE still matters. Just because his name is not out there in the mainstream, doesn't mean He is not doing anything. Jesse has contributed to several movies (other than Pretty in Pink and The Breakfast Club) He has been playing with folks like Tom somebody or other from Cameo and others and is working on his new album and tour. Many. many guitarists respect the gift of JESSE. cool

Hey, I love both on guitar. I think Jesse (without a doubt) holds his on. Jesse did his own thing (when it came 2 music). He also kept tha purple sound going as well. He's not a Prince copycat. Jesse Johnson stood on his own. Listen 2 "Free World", "I Want My Girl", and "Crazy", "Baby, Let's Kiss" and "Just Too Much". To a songs like "I Miss" on his last album (which was slept on by the way). That was a cool record. Just check out that bootleg of "The Homecoming" show. Watch Jesse while The Time is performing "777-9311" and "Get It Up". Watch The Time set. Jesse does tha damn thang and I think that's why Prince respected him so much because Jesse did keep that purple sound but he still did his own thing. After The Time broke up in 1984, it was like either Prince respected u or he'll took friendly jabs at u. Hey, mayb both. Look at Prince take of the "Oak Tree".

A hit dog will holler... Who the hell said my comment had anything to do with what you heard? I've already come to the conclusion that you're a Princebot and I wouldn't expect you to do anything other than come on this thread and babble something unintelligible.
