Perhaps they should look at the protest at what is WRONG with the state of music today.

Ashanti's biggest hit is a sample made popular less then 7 years ago by the Notorious B.I.G.

What happened to originality?

Perhaps someone is disturbed by the fact that someone who has been in the buisness less then a year, (we are only counting her debut) is gettign such an award of Achievement.

For them to point out that BET is white-owned is funny, as they have never had an issue before with this right?

We need to rise up musicaly, everyone, don;t lower your standards to the auidence's level, but, in fact, have the auidence raise up to your level.

Aretha is respected n did not jack someone else's beat n have a hit off a beat we all fricken know.

What is next?

Beyonce & Miss Keys on stage "& the winner for using Club Novous "Why You Treat Me So Bad" sample in a song;

J. Lo n Nas for "It's Gonna Be Alright"

Let's not forget Jessica Simpson covered it with JD & (LiL) Bow Wow for the remix of Irrisitable"
& two and a half years ago was used by P. Diddy & R. Kelly for He don;t Understand you Like I DO"
& let's not forget the Luniz "I got 5 on it" in 1995.

The Grammy's no longer allow live albums of greatest hits to be eligible for a major award after Eric Clapton swept for Unplugged.
The Oscars would not allow Coolio's Gangsta's Paradise" to be eligible for song of the year altho it wa written for the movie but because it had Stevie Wonder's smaple in it.

I am so tired of this. Next years grammy's will be a catagory for sample of the year n It would be Puffy competeing against himself 5 times.

I am sorry but the female with the most effect on music in the past 12 months is Miss Keys, New artist of the year Grammy, several other countless awards. SO, it seems to me thier is a conspiracy here. The reason being, BET gave Miss Keys the Entertainer of the year award (right?) So the Lady of Soul awards do not wnat to look like they are jacking/jocking.

Iti s so lame that in Essence Magazine, when thier is a jet award show or Ebony Award shows, they are NOT reported. WHY? Cuz stead of working together, they compete. Lame. Sorry, I don;t think anyone deserves the Aretha Award this year but if you have ot choose someone, Miss Keys or even Beyonce deserves that award over Ashanti.

And to call someoen a Moron n all that, how professional. Soul Train needs another Don Cornelious to step up in stead of this Don Cornholeio writing lame stuff on thier site. Shoulda ignored it. Just trying to brign attention to thier sorry excuse for a web site.

Vibe n SOul Train NEED to step up!

For an "official" statement, that sure had a whole lotta cursing! Made them sound like defensive morons, IMO.

Am I the only one that noticed Ashanti's arm things. When she sings and dances she always holds one arm in a 'cripled like position' as if it's in a cast??

after reading some comments on other site(s), many agree the award could be given to jill scott or even alicia keys. maybe even, norah jones.

i think ashanti is being used for ppl's maddness at what the business has become. poor girl...got in the way.

i'll say it again...Ashanti isn't just a singer...she has written a few of j.lo's hits...not that it's impressive but she is doing her thing...and to be honest...I like her cd better than Alicia Keys...(my daughter owns Ashanti's cd)...
