I was in a Wherehouse Music in LA a few days ago while I was out there making a documentary about Tupac for the BBC.

Saw a copy of 1999: The New Master in there for about 5 bucks, so i thought, what the hell, I'll pick it up for the collection. Even though I knew everyone says it sucks, I hadn't ever heard it myself. Part of me thought "it can't be THAT bad".

oh dear. This has to be the biggest pile of shite I've ever heard. Way to ruin a classic. Prince, if you're reading this, I love you man, I even love a lotta stuff that most fans hate, but I can't co-sign this absolute stinker of a release.

Seriously, I really can't get over what the fuck that CD was. I mean damn. The only time this will ever touch my ears again is probably in a year or so when I'll be wondering if it really was as awful as I remember.

just makes you wonder , according to various sources he definitely re-recorded all his back catalogue , if he can massacre 1999 so thoroughly do we really want to hear all the other re-recordings . Remastering but no more rerecording is the way to go I'd say

i will not allow that cd in my home.

It's no masterpiece, that's for sure. But, at the release party, the one or two versions (can't remember now...) they played didn't sound too bad on the Studio54 system. It actually was an ok club beat/song.

i'm scared to buy 1999: The New Master, i've had it my hands sevreal times, walked around store, walked up to the cash rigester turned around and put it back. i'm just scared.
