is this the same for evryone? i'm feeling the big boss money minders won't give prince another album

Prince will always get another deal. It might not be the deal he was hoping on. However he'll always get a deal.

They'll always be willing to give him deals, just not massive deals like the ones given to artists in the early 1990s. What have Universal done to promote 3121? A TV ad here, a poster there... not much really. The album's still done reasonably well, so I'm sure they've made money from it.

The deals that Prince will get from now on will no doubt be similar to Musicology and 3121, that is, little investment for a decent (if not amazing) return. It works out well for both parties; Prince gets mass distribution and therefor mo' money, and the label doesn't have to go "all-out" on promotion, therefor mo' moeny for them too!

I think that he will. If he plays the music HE wants to play and not what the mainstream is I think he'll be just fine.

It’s very much up in the air for me. I’m pretty optimistic that he can get another great deal but it would be a total leap of faith on the part of a big label because 3121 (in its wonderfulness) is not a very good reference. Why? Possibly Prince’s choice of singles (assuming he had total control over the process). While I have heard conflicting numbers about the record sales, I think 3121 would have had bigger success if the two lead singles were different. 3121 is a party album so why shouldn’t the two lead singles go for the jugular?

My choice of singles would be:

3121
Get on the Boat
Beautiful Loved and Blessed
Black Sweat
The Word

There was so much potential in this album that it could have been damn near historic. There was much in this album to promote if certain gems was put to the forefront.

Universal is pulling its hair out. "you won't promote it, u fuckerrrrr"

He does this when the record company does something to piss him off. I bet he wanted to do a tv special on the Witnesses, but nobody would go for it.

Oh lawd. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. If he manaaged to get deals after that publicity nightmare with WB, he'll manage to get deals in the future.
