To answer your question, I listened to 1999 start to finish about a week ago at work. Sure made work a lot more tolerable.

The 1999 album is the alpha/omega of the year 1982. sigh A pity it's not remastered.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Let's c...

25 albums...let's assume u've bought them all on c.d...and if u average the cost of c.d.'s since they vary from store 2 store it would probably be $16 average each.

16 times 25 is...$400...and maybe u rebought 3 of them sicne u lost them or ur so-called friend borrowed it and scratched it...so that'd b $48 for 3.

$448 plus years of NPGMC membership? Well, how long has the club been around? Since 1998? (I don't even know) So if u were a member every year so far u'd have spent about $500 assuming u had premium membership from the beginning.

$500 plus $448 is $948. Maybe u've gone 2 only one Prince show..I'll say ONA since it's the only one I know the pricing 4. And u spend $100 per person...which is $200.

$200 plus $948 is $1148. Hmm...$20 4 a tourbook and $20 4 a t shirt...

would be $1188.

This doesn't even include interview discs and some Prince books I have coming my way from amazon.com. lol

Or the related artists...

Wow...this truly is an obsession. omfg

It is amazing that '1999' doesn't sound dated after all these years. It's an album that was made in the early 80's with drum machines & synthesizers...that description can conjure up some memories of a lot of cheesy music that was released around that time yet '1999' didn't sound like any of them.
And the drum machine patterns on that album! I still marvel at how inventive & intricate they are. Why didn't Kirky J. learn anything from them?

Sorry your maths is a bit whack smile The NPGMC is only in it's second year.

I LOVE this record. It's the one that made me a believer in Prince and his brilliance. How old was he when he did this? 23? And he did the WHOLE DAMNED THING HIMSELF, overdub by overdub. Listen to it in that context and breathe in the air of genious.

If I had to pick one Prince disc to exemplify who he is to me, this would be the one.

I love love every single song on this album (maybe with the exception of 'Free'). I got into Prince in 1990 and this was the first album I got from this back catalogue and it totally knocked me off my feet.
I haven't listened to it in a few months...I will definatly go dig this one up right now!

Swinger

I like the way he "retired" 1999 by playing it for the last time to an audience of invited VIPs instead of doing it as a treat for his loyal fans. Way to go, Roger.
