the whole "fam" thing...the celebrations (of past), keeping up with the cyptic mystic, him declaring that Rave was produced by "prince", the safe albums of the last couple years, the "hit" tour lists".

it all screams of a man attempting to figure out just what his fanbase wants...but, because he is so out of touch with reality and surrounded by "yes men" he fails at the execution...

IMHO.

lol

that's. how. you. see. it.

lol Yes, I know you clearly stated IMHO, just thought this would be a good way of saying I disagree smile

eahem.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

With all due respect Kat, this is contradictory.. Of course it's about US, u say so urself...

no, what it says is I am willing to appreciate what he is willing to share, that is not the same thing as I expect him to share this or share that...nothing contradictory in that statement at all wink

What Ever. your attempt at being funny takes nothing away from the fact of being busted.

I just finally got around to watching the Oprah episode with Bon Jovi, having recorded it some many months ago. All I can say is WOW. It really moved me. But, one of the things that really stuck with me was something he said when talking about his fans. I never really looked at it this way, and will say I have been guilty from time to time of believing that Prince owed us, as fans, certain things.

Bon Jovi summed it up nicely though. He said while he appreciates his fans and his music wouldn't be what it is today without them, he doesn't create his music or live his life based on what the "fans want", because if he did, then he was no longer living his life for himself, but for others. That is so true. Not just with Prince, but other artists we admire, we come to expect to receive certain things from them, but they have the right to live their life for them, just as we do. I can honestly say, I will not come to expect anything from Prince, but just appreciate what of his life/music he is willing to share with us cool

Kat

Hi Tx,

How have you been? biggrin Good I hope. Anyway, I agree with your statement, nicely put.

Absolutely right, txladykat. I don't get it sometimes. Who among us would go up to their regular friends and demand that they (do whatever it is that they do) the way you want them to, and say that they suck if they don't? So why would anyone make those same expectations of a complete stranger?

The reason people like any artist in the first place is because that artist is doing something different, cool, something unique to that person. Otherwise they're not an artist, they're a puppet. And for those people who like prefabricated puppet music, there's plenty of that to go around already. Let artists make art. Forced art = fart. smile

clapping
remember Prince's whole thing on "letting go of expectations" I always thought this is what he was getting at. He makes his music and if people like it...GREAT, but if not fine. We don't have to get all pissed cause he didn't make the song or choose the religion we wanted him to make or choose. Let's let Prince be Prince and just appreciate his efforts and talent. Like what we like and what we don't like...let it go. it's ok.

I wish there was a way to bounce things off of Prince the way he bounces things off of other musicians, us & society. I mean it'd be nice to share a two way street with the man. It's possible that he shows up here or other message boards from time to time. But random thoughts really aren't that reliable when it comes to serious feedback.
Prince can take us or leave us so I agree, it's not about us.

Hi!!!! biggrin Oh I'm doing fine!!Real busy at work, no vacation since the Vegas show. But I am working on taking some much needed time off. Good to see a familiar name around. I guess everyone (former npgmc members) is spread out all over the place. Anyway, good talking with you and I'll be stopping in here from time to time!

Peace!! biggrin

Wow, I never thought anyone would use a unique and enjoyable experience such as the Celebrations and Musicology tour in a negative light like that - as you state, an act of desperation from Prince.

Anyway, what about Rainbow Children, NEWS, C-Note, Crystal Ball, Chocolate Invastion and the like. You call that safe music and Prince screaming to do what the fans want?

nod
