I went to the website, and looked around a bit. I looked at the description of the music exhibit, and Prince got a very short mention. It said that they had a tambourine from the Purple Rain tour on display. Is that all there is? I would think he'd get a little more recognition than that. confused

if you mean crud like amurrican idol and all the other "talent" out there, then you'd be a titch wrong about that. in a decade's time, i think that all that kinda shit will be dead and forgotten so it won't even have so much as a knuckle to be put into actual history. the talent with legit staying power and undeniable talent--like, i dunno, that one prince guy--will be remembered for generations to come.

agreed. nod

hell yeah. As far as I'm concerned, Prince is the ONLY reason why tourism to Minnesota became popular lol Why the hell else would you want to vacation in MN?

well, there's this... whistling 'sides, when the state's not collarbone-deep in snow and freezing to death, minnesota ain't a bad place to visit.

You have a point there, I've been to MN in June, and it's very beautiful (but hot as hell) lol

right, but historically, he won't be important. pop-culture history? sure. but not in the scheme of important things.

and as for all the crap being dead in a decade... there'll just be new crap a decade from now, and more of it. after all, it hasn't lessened in the past decade. and a decade ago, there was more of it than a decade before that, and so on. that's the problem. more and more pop-culture is replacing actual culture to the point where that's all we're going to have anymore.

Yes, I saw that, but I meant for his name. Do I just put "Prince" or do I put "Prince Rogers Nelson"
...?

the way i see it, pop culture history is just as much a part of actual history as you may think. they're more or less intertwined.

Umm...so since when is art not culture? It's pretty important in most people's eyes. Unless, of course, you're of the Jessie Ventura is culture crowd.
wink

art is part of culture. but this is supposed to be a vote for historical figures, not pop culture ones. but so far, no one, including people from Minnesota, has come up with anyone actually important to the history of the world or the country (or Minnesota for that matter), so I guess Prince'll just have to do until somebody from Minnesota does something meaningful to the world besides write some songs shrug
