Prince dance mix question

the release of the prince extended dance mixes made me wonder....who extended the songs to the dance mix version?...did prince put it together?..because that makes me wonder why the album version wasn't the dance mix version, which would be longer and more entertaining...there's some jamming, etc...

Prince did all of his mixes in the early years i believe. It's only around the time of Batman other people started doing some remixes, I THINK. And the extended versions were left off because they wouldn't really work for an album, especially if all the songs were extended with long jamming. The album time would run too long! So they were released seperate on singles, as a treat.

Just slightly earlier I think - he'd involved Shep Pettibone in 1987 on 'Hot Thing' remixes.

and Sheila did the Fresh Dance Mix of Pop Life and Wendy and Lisa did much of the mixing on the rest of AtWiaD (both the album and the remixes) (well other than America which is said to pretty much be just what is sounds like... they just kept playing in the studio)

The long versions of "Controversy" and "Let's Work" are alright for a listen now and then, but they drag on too much and wouldn't work well with the album as a whole.
