What little-known Prince track would you like to see covered by a serious artist and made a hit a la Nothing Compare 2U?

Nothing Compares 2 U brought a lot of attention Prince's way. Regardless of whether everyone knew he wrote it or not, it brought him a lot of money, and those that did find out he wrote it gave him a lot of respect for it (despite the popular assumption that he gave the track to Sinead in the first place).

What other song(s) could be covered by a serious artist and become a hit while also getting critical acclaim? Name a track and a potential artist and/or style.

I'd love to see Tom Jones cover The Continental!

I think it would actually be a hit across the pond! I'm sure the video would be hilarious too. lol...

And R&B wise... I'd love to see Maxwell cover It's Gonna Be Lonely.
The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

"Toy Box" would work well for any and all of these lame assed R&B wannabe divas these days. Not that it's a bad song. I can just hear it "working" with today's sound s'all.
I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

Garth is the first person that came to mind...I couldn't think of a song, though. But then, neither could you.

I can hear that.

I thought I heard Mariah was going to do Gold for Glitter. I could hear that.

I'd like my band to do any Prince song and have a hit, but they won't.

Either or could make it a big hit. Besides it being an amazing song, having it done by a current sensation guarantees heavy rotation.

"Open Book" is such a wonderful song,Prince really should have given it to a major female artist like Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey to record. It would have been a Number One smash hit!

I'd like to see 'Partyup' covered by a female pop act. Just imagine the juxtaposition of Jessica Simpson in combat-inspired hotpants and open blouse writhing about in the desert whilst singing this.

It'd be a smash hit!
