Is Prince drifting?

i know i always seem to be cynical, but the truth is i am disappointed and sad about the current state of non-Princeness these days.

I admit i still get excited seeing him on tv, doing a lame ass performance on lame ass shows. even getting awards...

but the last time he was so disconnected and erratic with his behaviour was during the Slave Gold days, but even then he had a focus. a reason for being pissed off.

now he isnt making a point with any music, hell he isnt even making music.
he isnt promoting his own album (as opposed to sabotaging WB's marketing attempt of Chaos & Disorder, say)

he's doing big name parties, closes his club, leaves fans in the dark for the most part, and of course he's going thru a divorce, which as sincere as even Prince can be, must bug him a little bit. maybe he really liked this one!

I dunno, i just feel like everyone's trying to be positive all the time, and this isnt an argument over his relevance or greatness, i just sorta feel sorry for the guy, and confused as a fan of whats going on! Im not gonna give him irrelevant advice like " go back to rock" or "more funk" as helpful as he finds that...

just sorta bummed out that the only news we have to get excited over is an emmy party not for the public or on tv.

He's getting a freaking divorce. he's entitled to drift, if that is the case. I've been more erratic over ex-girlfriends much less a busted up marriage that makes the papers.
"What kind of fuck ending is that?"

yeah, I was surprised to hear "1999" played on ET today and then they said Prince was performing at their....Emmy party, I went...huh? I can't say I understand his attraction to the Hollywood crowd at all.

Hell if we know. Me, bottle of Jack, a few bad women, some antibiotics, and boom, life's great again. He may deal with things differently.

To each his own, I say.

Yeah I know what you mean...Hollywood is so...fake...it's almost sicking how many posers there are there acting like they are the real deal...there is not alot of substance but it can be fun and flashy if you take it for what it is I guess....visting yes but I can't see why anyone would want to spend too much time in that town. But that is just me it's gotta feel alot different for someone of his stardom.

Maybe right now he may not want to be around his real fans because most of them have been extremely critical of him and his performances lately. Like how some fans went off about the BET performance, the fact he showed up on AI, etc. Seems he's been trying to please us by making these appearances, and what do we do, some fans slam him. It's like he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

Especially if fans, not all his fans, feel that his performance wasn't what they expected because they're not willing to accept that he is not the Prince of the 1980s. This is a new Prince, either you take him or leave him.

From a lot of the posts from his official and unofficial sites, there was major criticism about what song he chose to play at the BET awards. I'm sure he read a lot of those remarks and just need to be away from us awhile, since he has been playing at small venues with Tamar this year, and he got a lot of criticism from that too, which I didn't have a problem with. I thought it was a very good show. So maaayyybbbeee and that's a big maybe, he seriously needs a break from his fans demands and whining, and their has been a lot. He has the divorce to deal with, he had the trademark issue, and the situation with Universal, and who knows what else. The man needs a break from us.

Right now, at this time, the hollywood crowd won't be as critical and demanding, but more appreciative at this time, fake or not, it's a whole different crowd. (ok, Cape don't slam me on this one biggrin )

Ah i'll let u off easy this time smile

I had a great response all typed up and lost connection. now i gotta retype it and i know it just aint the same!

Ok, so you're suggesting he finally turned his back on us, for lack of a better phrase. we were too mean? nah fans have always been hard to please for the most part. some are always living in the past, or looking for him to do that other thing he does better...he must be used to it.
All NPGMC did was eliminate the cussing

Look, for every person that dissed his hair, makeup or song choices the last few months, there were ten more praying for him and his marriage and giving kind words in general. hell the amount of positivity he can get here for his entire back catalogue and career can sustain a man!

he's one step away from becoming a golden oldies revue show. he didnt get cheated out of his career like Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Ringo Starr. He doesnt need to live in the past, but do you think he'll play something new and creative at the Superbowl? He fought to get rid of that albatross in the mid nineties and won!, remember?

I just wish he would remember what he fought so hard against. corporate controlled media outlets...the same CEO's who will be at this ET party collecting $50k in swag and they maybe bop their heads to Lets go Crazy.

are these the people he wants to please now? do they really give him comfort?

i think it really is a sad state if he tucks his tail between his legs, shuts out his fans who are too vocal to pander to fake plastic yes men and women in the crowd.

I am greedy for my entertainment, of course. thats the main reason i lvoe the guy. but after being a fan so long i do worry in a way about his welfare and where he's headed. i hope he reclaims his integrity and can deal with criticism. After all it comes from the people that are buying it and care enough to express their opinion about it.
thats why he got where he is/was in the first place

Peace (copying to clipboard and clicking submit!)
