I was just thinking that Prince seems to use a lot of gimmicks to sell his music. Chaning his name to the glyph; including the Musicology CD with the sale of the concert tickets; the purple ticket thing with 3121. What's next?

Don't get me wrong. I love his music and buy most of the stuff that he produces, but it seems like he doesn't have the confidence in the music selling on its own merit. What do you all think, or am I blowing it out my ass?

Just Marketing, it's a tougher market if you aren't young, gorgeous and happy to be manipulated.

I've always wondered if Prince uses sex and androgony to sell his music or if it really is a strong part of him and he was just expressing himself the way that is most natural to him...or if it is all one big manipulation of the public.

I've thought about asking Michael Bland this in his Q and A thread (I know he said he felt embarrassed about it sometimes)...but I'm too scared!
