Habibi is probably the most commonly used word in Arabic songs and does indeed mean "my love" or "beloved". It's used sort of like "baby" in English. Unlike English however, Arabic is not a gender neutral language and Habibi actually is the masculine reference. The intersting part though is that traditionally all songs and poetry were in the masculine whether written/performed by a male or female artist. Even today it is very rare to find a song using "habibti", the female reference. | |
