The Rainbow Children, is the work of a genius. Prince like we never seen him before, with his alter-ego and religion in charge.

This album is dangerous stuff, ONLY can the TRUTH be seen here.

It is a sad attempt at apeing Miles Davis' Bitches Brew, a sad attempt indeed. End up sounding more new age/soft jazz then intriguing or beguiling.

Well sure that's what you and the rest of the Mountains/Raspberry Beret crowd would think. When you're ready to move on and discuss real music-- Prince or otherwise-- let us know. confused

It's not that serious but it's exasperating to keep rehashing this, especially when the argument is so weak. Maybe this could apply to N.E.W.S. but TRC is a little more than an attempt to sound like Miles Davis or even James Brown for that matter.

Like Gustavo I rarely listen to it, but I love it. As he said it's not the kind of album you put on as background music. It's a standout in his catalogue in that there's nothing like it. The fact that it's flawlessly executed helps make it a top 5 Prince album to be sure. It may not be a favorite but it's certainly a great album. As both an artist and a man I recognize this album as a masterpiece. In contrast, Lovesexy speaks to me more as a man than as an artist.

My previous post is not to say that I don't appreciate or like Mountains and Raspberry Beret. I just have the musical sense to not judge all other songs by those standards. Feel-good pop is cool but there are songs out there that dwarf these songs in comparison.

The "smooth jazz" discussion again...
Well, only few tracks are ´smooth jazz´....only because Najee plays the flute on first track?
The Work is pure James Brown. Everywhere could be on Parade, 1+1+1=3 is a cousin to Erotic City.....Everlasting Now and Family Name are powerful funk songs. Last December is a Purple Rain-like rock anthem. Even Muse 2 the Pharaoh is much more borrowed from D´Angelo than smooth jazz or Miles Davis.

I really wish Prince did a great instrumental album inspired on Miles Davis someday...
