I have been reading a lot of people say that they don't like "Incense and Candles". OK not a problem if that's not what u like. But I F***kin love that song and play it to death.
Someone who doesn't like it please tell me why

It's an alright song to me. I think that part of the hate it recieves is because whenever Prince does more or less strait R&B and/or rap a certain fan base is gonna hate it reguardless of how it sounds. Some of those same fans think that any rocker he comes out with is a "return to greatness" no matter what.

In my opinion, I think some people simply prefer that Prince leans more toward one genre. For me, part of the appeal is the ability to mix it up.

but lyrically its probably one of the most obvious admissions of egoic insecurity i've ever heard.

Actually, that's my favorite song on the album at this point. I've refrained from comment up until now because I didn't feel like being called an idiot for liking what I think is a cute song.
It's light & fun!

It's one of the best on the album! He should shoot a video for it and release it as a single. It's typical of Prince to pass up his best stuff for promotion.

Love it too...it could be my fifth fav on the CD...after LOVE, THE WORD, BLACK SWEAT and 3121.

to me it sounds far too much like the typical stuff others are splooting all over the R & B airwaves at the moment. it's another example of prince putting on The Coat Of Street Credibility™--when he attempts to be "in", it seldom works.

I really liked it at first but I've grown kinda bored with it since.

It remains my bf's favorite song on the album.

I think my problem with it is it already sounds dated. The vocal effects are just SO tired. just my opinion, of course.

It's not like I hate it or somehting, but it sounds a bit mainstream and I guess we all expect Prince not to be mainstream.
However, it's a nice easy song to listen to and the mix between his voice and her voice makes it even nicer I think.

But well not the best song on the album I think.
