After being lucky enough to travel from London to MPLS for Celebration and seeing the ONA twice that week would much prefer a full set of the Acoustic in London and bring with him Norah Jones as support

C'mon !
You american people already had the "hit & run" and the "ona" tours these last three years .
It's time for Prince to tour Europe again .
What would be nice would be a show splitted in two parts :
Part 1 : intimate with just Prince
Part 2 : like a "ona" show

whilst I would love him to tour Europe with an acoustic set, the exclusive npgmc soundcheck access would presumably last all of 5 minutes.

Tour Europe with ONA and just have an acoustic guitar-piano segment in it.

I got a feeling Prince is tired of the band and especially of the band-related bills. It must cost top dollars to have John Blackwell and Maceo around...

the guy should focus and keep his promise: release CD 2 and 3 asap

Ummm...How has Prince broke his promise? We are not even 6 months into the club yet meaning that if he was delivering the cd's quarterly cd 2 should just be getting ready to be delivered. Everyone like to think that the membership began on Jan. 1 when in reality it began at the very end of February.

On top of this nowhere did they say that you would be getting the cd's every three months. They said that you would be getting 4 cd's in a year. So if at the end of February you don't have 4 cd's then you can bitch.

I would be a very HAPPY person if Prince just decided to come over and play Europe no matter what type of show he would bring. It is time that he visited us over here and allowed us European NPGMC members to experience the perks of being a member.
A show divided into two parts would be nice as although it would be absolutely fantastic if he played two shows per city (ONA & accoustic) this is not going to happen.
Prince just get yourself out here and don't forget to come to Spain.

This is really good news and I'm really glad to hear it! :smile" smile smile

Thanks for the update NPGMC.

And I don't REALLY mind whatever kind of tour he would do, as long as he gets here...preferably not to late in the year...
However... since he seems a little desparate about having to choose and is clearly asking for answers and ideas from members, I have some ideas about it...

But first:

bkw said:

Well, the good news is that he is obviously going to tour Europe!

I think the question should be read as meaning when he tours Europe should he bring the ONA show or a more intimate show.

I dont think he is suggesting starting a more intimate show in USA. He better not be.

I agree 100%...

If he would have meant an acoustic tour in the US then instead of saying:

"With PRINCE surveying his next move, we'd like 2 know what u think: Tour ONE NITE ALONE in Europe or begin a more intimate tour with just PRINCE on acoustic guitar and piano "

He would have said something like:

"With PRINCE surveying his next move, we'd like 2 know what u think: Tour ONE NITE ALONE in Europe or begin a more intimate tour with just PRINCE on acoustic guitar and piano, in the USA? "

I really see no other possibilities.

And I really don't get it why SOME Americans here truly wish he would continue touring in the US... AGAIN...which he just finished about 2 months ago...
As if he really has toured Europe, or the rest of the world for the last 4 years and not once the USA??? NOT...
selfish...you know who you are...

But many positive shoutouts to the Americans speaking out on behalf of the Europeans!
Thanks for holding our back! (Organgrinder!)

I also agree (in part) with what Aerogram posted :

Tour Europe with ONA and just have an acoustic guitar-piano segment in it.

YES

THAT would really be the BEST thing to do. If you are having lots of doubts on what to choose between two options, then why choose just one, choose both, if you can.

And I think he can... it's very well possible, because the US ONA-tour standard setlist structure already follows this same pattern:

With ONA,.. Prince first plays with the band for an exhilarating hour and a half or so,

Then for the second part moves into the piano intermezzo where he plays for half an hour to an hour...

For the final third part the band gets back again and they end the concert with two, three or more songs and /or party-jams.

The usual concert lasted at least 2 and half hours if I remember the reviews well...

For the European tour he could first change some of the songs on the ONA setlist. That alone would already make it different and more interesting for the musicians and the fans ... surprises are nice ...(but better NOT leave out Family Name!.. nor AnnaStesia... no no no!)

He could then shorten the first part a bit and replace it with a funky and intimate acoustic guitarset, which slips into the even more intimate piano part. Make the two of them part2, which in total also lasts for an hour or so.

Then for the final bring the band back like happens with ONA to play more tunes, and perhabs a party-jam, whatever really.

I of course think that he should play for AT LEAST 3 hours and make part 3 last for an hour at least also, but that may be a bit too much to ask... (Tho' Maceo always seems to do that!)

but THAT would be superb!

and I'm POSITIVE Europe will love every bit of his new music played live and be thrilled to witness his new found energy and inspiration. ...

Try to find some promoters who do not need to work through the overly commercial media-channels, but who will get attention for the concert you need, including via more 'alternative' ways. Please do NOT promote on the commercial radio stations. The true fans will be there with promotion or without. But the rest of the crowd should be people who REALLY want to witness this.

Further... Aerogram also said:
I got a feeling Prince is tired of the band and especially of the band-related bills. It must cost top dollars to have John Blackwell and Maceo around...

This I STRONGLY disagree with...

If Prince is already TIRED of the band, then the man would have a SERIOUS problem with being bored much too fast...

He has got some super class musicians he is working with and just only 5 months ago he started touring with them... If he would be bored already then he would be spoiled as hell... I think I would never get bored of John Blackwell! so it's nonsense that he is bored Aerogram smile

And concerning MONEY..., there really shouldn't be anything to worry about that.

He could tour the most beautiful and historical theaters in Europe with the band (of only 4) and still make at least enough to break even. He doesn't need whole truckloads of stage material and a huge concert crew. Hell he could carry his guitar on his back and play on the house piano of the local Concert Hall Orchestra! (That is an idea btw... lol)

But seriously... consider that Maceo Parker himself comes to Europe AT LEAST every two year (but often more), and plays many, many cities, including small towns...

AND brings a much bigger band than Prince...

AND only asks about 30 Euros (+/- 30 US$)...per ticket.

AND plays and parties with the people for at least 3 HOURS ...then...
No kidding... prince could do that as well.
Maceo just played with Ani di Franco at a jazz festival, he seems to be here every year.

So he does not need any more money than he is making to make all that happen and doesn't seem poor at all to me.

He just seems like he really WANTS to play
AND SO SEEMS PRINCE.

and that's great!

smile

Good points as usual Abrazo!
It's funny half the time people complain about how much Prince must be making and then are worried here (!) about how it might be too expensive to bring a small band (yeah smaller than Maceo's who as you say costs a regular ticket price)
I think Prince might be smart to bring this show to Europe, I am not sure people will pay huge prices for a solo accoustic set, plus I can't imagine him without any band at all!!!and I really can't imagine even paying top fees to his band, assuming that he does, that this tour with $100+ ticket price doesn't pay it's way...you do the math...

Hope you're all sending in your thoughts to him as well, and we might get the ONA in Europe...

Dima, thanks for the compliment. smile

And good point about the ticket prices. I'm afraid you are right that that will be a hot potato if he decides to charge the same prices as in the US.
Last time I saw him perform here, in 1998, tickets were about 35 euros (ticket service included). Granted, that was a bigger hall than he would play now and it was 4 years ago, but 125 euros to see Prince perform...?? ...only on guitar and piano??...hhhmmm that's almost 4 times as much... hhhmmm... better think about that...lol

I think he can go to a maximum price of around 70 euros, depending on the country and city... (London and Paris would naturally be more expensive)

I don't think that he will do an all acoustic set in the end. Maybe he could just do an usual ONA set with either the piano medley or an acoustic guitar medley...

I just read my e.mail from the NPG, I m pretty sure that he won t go to Europe, because Europe don t like him very much, I m sure that he had done a study and knows that it will cost much time and money to go there and didn t really do what he wants, the public is not ready for his new music !
So he is going to stay in America, and before the end of the year starts a brand new acoustic tour for north american people. I can t wait to see him again !!!

Here is a response I got:

High NPGMC,

Thank u 4 all ur responses. As xpected, the Americans would prefer an acoustic tour and the Europeans would prefer a European tour. However, all agree a tour with PRINCE alone on guitar and piano would b an amazing xperience. Europe can relax tho, Prince will begin securing a European tour 1st. C u soon.
