I feel too tired to read the entire thread, maybe that is due to age or maybe I spent too much time on this site, but it is a bit easy to throw all Orgers of a certain age together.

I mean, all the otehrs are WEIRD... I am as sane as a pancake.

I was thinking teh other day - many fans say Prince has lost something but when it comesto explaining what it is its always so hard to define....

I ALREADY DFINED IT BUT Y'ALL CANT HANDLE THE TOOF. HE'S TOXIC. GOOD MUSIC NEEDS CLEAN CHANNELS. MUSIC COMES FROM GOD. WHEN A TALENT IS ABUSED BY TOXIC LIFESTYLES IT CANT WORK THRU THAT PERSON NO MORE. THINK OF BATTERIES CORRODING. SAME PRINCIPLE. KINDA. LUST GREED ENVY GLUTTONY SLOTH VANITY AND PRIDE. WALLA WALLA BING BANG THEMS GUNNA KILL TALENT IN NO TIME. SAD BUT TRUE SORRY Y'ALL heart

Oh my god...what are you talking about...psycho babble.

The reason Prince has lost it is because he spends too much time thinking on the same level as you are talking. Too much time talking baout rubbish can sure distract you from the real job of making music.

Name me one 'clear channeled' musician and maybe I'll understand better

i guess if i went through a bitter battle with my record company, lost a son, both my parents, and went through two divorces and found myself a middle aged man at the end of it all, i'd just wanna throw my hands up, enjoy my celebrity, and bling out for a while too. shrug

I think at least the old time prince fans must admit that the new stuff does not touch their hearts and souls as much as the "old stuff" (see various threads around here).

Well, I think that real passion for music is probably at its peak when you are between 12-25, then the "fire" gets a bit more controlled as you get older.

So, if your favourite artist in that time period was Prince, than the albums he put out will have been burnt inside you. The new albums do not have that chance - and be honest, is there anything else that you feel the same passion for now, than you had with Prince albums back then? Probably not.

So, with less passion for music in general, the new Prince albums never have a real chance!

DISCUSS biggrin

Naaah..I still love his music.

If old-time means from '84, then I might have to agree that Prince's albums don't grab me like they used to. But there are those moments. Like the end of "My Computer." Or "endorphinmachine." Or "1+1+1=3." Or the end of "The Dance." Or the end of "A Case of U." Et cetera.

Well, I think that real passion for music is probably at its peak when you are between 12-25, then the "fire" gets a bit more controlled as you get older.

You need to rethink that. That's way off base. Prince was a great primer for my passion for music. I listen to Stevie and Sly the way I never did when I was growing up. My love for the complex nature of Prince music prepared me for the 2d great musical love of my life, jazz. Hip-hop, from PE to Madvillain, sparks a passion. I buy more music now that I am less into Prince. The passion isn't dimmed for true music lovers, it's just felt and expressed differently.

Wait till you get a little older.

So, if your favourite artist in that time period was Prince, than the albums he put out will have been burnt inside you. The new albums do not have that chance - and be honest, is there anything else that you feel the same passion for now, than you had with Prince albums back then? Probably not.

Come on now. That's way too presumptuous and patently false.

So, with less passion for music in general, the new Prince albums never have a real chance!

Wrong. Prince's new albums "don't have a real chance" because they don't connect with his fans and the public in general like they used to. His relevance now lies in his ability as a live performer.

Seeing his concerts only reminds you of why you were (and are) passionate about his music.

I understand the basis for this forum. As the OLDEST DOCUMENTED ORGER on this web site, I prefer P's newer stuff vs older stuff. Anyhow...Twista has great music, Josh Stone, Everlast....Ya can't get stuck in one groove, and I haven't lost my passion for music.(it would be difficult to bellydance if I did) I'll always love and listen to P's music. And I like the new stuff he does. I'm OK with his sophisticated approach to it all. The coat, thong, splits..if you miss it, watch the video.

That's one possible explanation. I say that they expect Prince to make the same type of music again and again...

No I haven't lost passion for music. I am too busy discovering about hip hop funk and rnb songs I haven't heard of from 1978-99, or relive and listen to the pop and heavy metal songs of the 80s and 80s, that I don't have time to bitch about my disliking of music in general from 2000 to present. smile

Ive been a fan since 83 so does that make me an oldie probably does. biggrin

As far as Prince is concerned i,d say yes, its only natural, as i think it would be kinda freaky to be loving everything he puts out.
He changes, We change.

As for music in general I Disagree i loved music then and i love music now.
Only the artists have changed, theres stil tons of great new music out there you just have to go look for it and avoid what your drip-fed through the media.

As an example i remember buying The arcade fire album about 18 months ago and just playing it like fuckin nonstop it was so refreshing to hear, it was like being a kid again listening to 1999. lol

you gotta just roll with the punches cause P has never made music to please anyone but himself and its ok. personally i think he has lost his edge but that doesn't mean it is a good or bad thing. then again i thought he and Mani would be married atleast 7 years so what do i know?
