Does anyone know how many songs Prince has written in his entire life? I've been wondering about this question for some time. Maybe there's an orger here with a good calculator and a lot of time?

if he would have written "a song a day" for the last 25 years
it would constitute at the very most around 10,000 songs.

which is rediculous since he doesn't really write a song each
day. plus there's all the time spent touring, rehearsing and
mixing, finetuning tracks that he's working on.

plus, the man has a life, lol. it's been a long time since he
spent his days locked up in paisley park by himself churning
out tune after tune in the middle of the night.

i think a more appropriate guess would be around 3,000 songs.
some of them finished, some of them just demo's and perhaps a
bunch of them just basic tracks or ideas.

I think he was asked this question, and he answered "about 4000, but some of them sound alike".

Nevertheless, it is interesting to see how many songs P wrote. He basically wrote all of the Time's early material alone. I didn't know that. I didn't know he wrote a song for Kenny Rogers or Celine Dion either.

hard question to answer for sure.....but I can imagine that whatever he has in his "vault", which is unreleased is enough to release at least 100 more albums.
It's just that the little big man is so uptight and such a perfectionist, it takes him forever to choose what to put on an album.
Plus some of the old unreleased songs might be kinda outdated, not in terms of the music intended for them, but the lyrics.....
you know, he might be talkin' about "i cudn't reach u cause I wasn't at home and so had no phone....."

basically all lyrics before cell phones were invented had to be scrapped then.....
