D&P tour, London, 1992

Can any of the UK orgers help me remember this better?

During one London date on the D&P tour of 1992, Prince and the band came back to the stage for a surprise encore. The lights had been up for some time, and quite a few people had already left the arena. I was really lucky because I was sitting in front of the stage, and my exit route took me right by the stage, which was when they came back out to do another number.

Prince still immaculate (in yellow, I think) but most of the band were already wearing sweat pants, etc. Diamond and Pearl were in sweat pants, anyway.

I have a vague memory of seeing this performance either on video or TV. Can anyone else remember?

hmmm

(Sorry if this is in the wrong section... I've assumed that "Concerts" is for current events, like the world tour starting in September... oops, did I just say that? doh!).

LOL. I remember seeing myself too, which is why I'm trying to find it. I wasn't sure if it was all a dream...

one of my favourite memories! I had a really bad seat that night, upstairs right at the back with a couple of casual fans who were expecting more of a rock/guitar purple rain fix so were left a little disappointed by the show. However I suspected a return to stage after the end of the show and while everyone was leaving, we ran down the stairs and made my way back in to the main auditorium and straight to front and centre. Full lights on, and out pop Prince with guitar for Call the Law...just a few feet in front of me!!!

Ah, yes, it's all coming back (I have such a terrible memory).

That's sweet... makes me look forward to the D&P DVD release even more!

I was a member of "Controversy" Fanzine and all members were lucky enough to get front row seats or thereabouts at concerts. I was just hanging around looking at the instruments and stuff whem he came back on stage. Also had same sort of experience when Chaka Khan supporting and P came onstage with her...Most of the audience were still in the bars etc. One lasting memory was P was wearing converse trainer boots instead of usual cubans...I found that incredible at the time

There was a lot of whispers going around that night from Controversy members about staying behind after show. Remember P giving me high 5 as well....

I was a member of Controversy too. In fact, the night of the Call The Law encore, I was at the concert with a friend who I'd met via the Controversy meeting point for the London dates of the Nude tour in 1990. I've met some cool people through Prince.

cool.

this show put mine off of Prince and concerts due to the rush at the call the law bi, so I go to the concerts without her, which is a shame, I love taking her to see Prince and sharing what I love hearing live. not the same as pulling out a cd.

I was there!! Thanks for clarifying some aspects of it for me (i had forgotten the song they played). Just remember that we got up to leave after most other people already had and we heard a whistle. We turned around and they were back on stage, even though the lights were all up and most people had already left. Naturally we too ran right to the front and watched the encore. My all time favouite Prince show i've ever seen. Fantastic. Can't wait to check out the D&P dvd now if there's footage of that incident.

As I said, I was a member, but not particularly active. Aside from reading every issue of the magazine (cover-to-cover, many times over), the only thing I got involved with was the meeting point at the London Nude dates in 1990.

I think he did it on 2 of the 6 nights at Earls Court. I went to 4 of the shows (Think it was 4?!!) and missed both times he did it !!

I was a Controversy member too.

yep, I think that was it..first time I had a great seat but was caught out when he re-appeared, whereas second time I was ready for it and made my way right to the front. And on 2 other nights I snuck in a side entrance past security to catch the encores as I figured no one would notice and no one is sitting on their seats anyway!

I wonder how many of us 'were there' compared to how many were really there?

I saw the Sex Pistols at The 100 club - and The Beatles at The (original) Cavern.

I didn't of course...but you get my point I think. wink

PS: Proud long-term ex-'Controversy' member here wave

I think BC is saying that, as a defining moment on the tour, there will be lots of people who *claim* to have been there but weren't really. Like if you counted all the people who saw the iconic performance by the Sex Pistols in the 100 Club, it would have needed a capacity of >150,000.

lol
