Best gospel song? Just watched the vid 4 Willing & Able on You-tube and that version gets my vote, even tho D&P's my least fave album. Any other suggestions? And feel free to interpret gospel however you like. "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

Love the song, but hard to see it as gospel, unless you merely mean about God. Well, I did say you could all define gospel how ulike, and the end singalong bit could be gospelized I guess, so i'll take it! "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

If I was to pick on "best" it would be the cross.
However I find this thread very intresting because I like to rip and burn prince music according to the association between songs. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

GLad u liked the thread - I would react to Cross like I did 2 Anna Stesia: interesting choice, I would have never associated it with the term "gospel," but now I can imagine a big choir chiming in instead of the guitar roars on the second time around, and it could be awesome! The love we make, the word, power fantastic, beautiful, loved, and blessed. I have often thought of putting together a "gospel" playlist for my ipod if i can ever figure out how to make a playlist. 1 over Jordan...the greatest since

Love the song, but hard to see it as gospel, unless you merely mean about God. Well, I did say you could all define gospel how ulike, and the end singalong bit could be gospelized I guess, so i'll take it! Your post makes no sense at all. What makes a song gospel is it's message, not a choir, organs, moans and groans, and tamborines. This just typically classifies it as traditional gospel. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

Actually, by your answer you showed that my post DID make sense - since you understood it! In the openingpost to the thread I said that you could define gospel however you like - therby recognizing that it could have to do with content OR style. My personal association is generally with a style of music. I don't associate ALL music that mentions God as gospel music, but you're welcome to your own definitions. That was the point of my post, and I think u understood it, so there was no reason 2 b rude... "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

And you're right that just because a song "mentions God" doesn't make it gospel. That's why I said, "What makes a song gospel is its message...", which in fact is open to the interpretation of the listener, I guess. Some thought Jesus was God in the flesh preached His word, others thought he was a blasphemer. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!
