Chart placings/Org postings comparison

Prince has always maintained (or at least, appeared to) that chart placings were of no consequence to him. You've put the record out, if people like it then fine. If they don't,then at least they got a chance to hear it.

Having started a few threads on the org, I'm starting to realise that it's like releasing a single. You SO want your new thread to be viewed and responded to by lots of people. If it is, then you feel great and kind of satisfied that your thread went down so well. If your new thread dis-appears onto page 2 within one day, then you're ever so slightly disappointed.

This makes me think that, no matter what he says, Prince must be affected by how his singles/albums do in the charts and want to be seen to be as popular as possible. I'm sure that I'm not the only one to get disappointed with posts that disappear into nothing so quick. And I'm sure that Prince really would like his music to be heard by the masses. Let's face it - if you're going to send out a message, be it either through music or through any other type of media, you want it to be heard by as many people as possible.

Anybody got anything to add?

Teacher

Great thread/post Haystack! U make a very valid comparison here, and I think u have got to be right. Just a little while ago I made a reply on another thread talking about this very thing, that people get discouraged from starting valid and interesting threads because they are so quickly ignored. I think that Prince would have to feel the same, when "music" from other people like Spice Girls, Boyzone, and unmentionable others chart higher than his music.

You have made a very good point here, thank you!

Much love,
Jen

Great topic/great comparison. I have to agree w/Haystack. In some way, large or small, it must disappoint.

Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect, it means you've decided to look beyond the imperfections... unknown
