Pearls B4 the Swine

Wow. This is really a nice song. I've never paid it much attention. I guess from the title I assumed I would be assaulted with bible verses and religious dogma. However, that is not the case. I quite enjoy it.

Anyone else have a similar experience with this or another Prince song where you might have avoided the song due to the title or time period that it was released, but later discovered a little gem?

If I leave my front door open
would u come and visit me?
Just 2 slander my name hopin'
that I would pack my bags and leave...
If I did would u remember
2 feed the dove and clean the cage?
And never count in front of the children
lest they die of old age

I don't really know y we have 2 go r separate ways
Whether or not we grow after the seeds r shown
Only time can say...

Can I offer u baklava?
or a bagel with cream cheese?
Will we say grace 2 r father
holding hands down on r knees?
R we better off just fighting?
U on ur side, me on mine
R the words that I keep writing...
only pearls b4 the swine?
What makes men claim that u're a friend
when u're not at all?
They knock u down and then,
they lift u up again, just 2 c u fall...
But like a bird I'll keep on singing...
a song that never leaves ur mind
If nothing else u've taught me one thing...
"Never cast ur pearls b4 the swine"

i like this song
firstly because baklava is my favorite dessert
secondly because casting my pearls b4 swine is something i still do silly me
and thirdly because by doing what i'm told not to, i learned that love is free from all of this.....

i can cast my pearls before swine
they're still pearls
it doesnt hurt me anymore when they roll around in them like mud-pigs

pigs will be pigs
lovers will be lovers

i got it straight on which one of those I Am heart

God's Love moves in mysterious ways thru the actions and words of others
it can pinch and poke u awake if ur really listening
it can soothe u when ur heart is aching
it can cool when ur head is pounding
it can strip u naked, make u hate it,
make u lonely, force u to fake it

Love wants out of the box mankind has nailed it in
its so much more. x

And I think this song contains one of the most stupide lyrics Prince EVER sang...

Man, I would rather hear him sing "I am a dog, outside your door" then to suffer through "Can I offer u baklava?" over probably the easiest melody he ever wrote and with easy I do not mean good things with "easiest".

The piano/vocal melody actually is capable of making me aggressive. SKIP>>

basically a FU to the people like me who went to the 2001 Celebration and were put off by TRC.

Still a nice enough track, but it shows a bit of Prince's intolerance of anybody that doesnt agree with everything he says.
