The Day I Patted Prince On The Back As a long time UK fan living for 12 months in Sydney, Australia between May 2003 and May 2004 I was delighted to hear that Prince would be playing a few dates in Oz.
I was a member of the NPGMC and got myself a ticket that got me into the soundcheck, the gig and an aftershow private party at the Basement nightclub. Fantastic! Waited awhile for the soundcheck whilst NEWS was played over the speakers then Prince and co walked out. They played 17 Days, Beautiful Strange and The Rainbow Children. During this soundcheck, Prince walked off stage to listen to the sound from different positions, he walked past. Now did I - a. respect his privacy and stand there quietly. OR b. slam him on the back overenthusiastically and shout in a northern english accent 'WELL DONE PRINCE!' Yes, that's right, it was b. Anyway, it was a good moment, the gig was even better and even though he didn't play at the nightclub later on I got drunk so all was well. I often wonder though if anyone recorded that gig, it was the first night at the Sydney Entertainment Centre and was quite incredible.

lol.
When i went to the Manchester ONA concerts on the second night as i was heading to my seat i saw Maceo Parker walking towards me.He had a few bodyguards round about him but as he passed me i leaned in, patted his back and in a drunken scottish accent said," Gaun yersel Maceo Parker" He acknowledged me with a "thank you". oh Happy days. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Soundchecks from both 24th and 25th at Sydney are bootlegged, as well as the Sydney Entertainment show from 25th and The Basement aftershow performance (am of 26th). My guess is you are wondering about the 24th show. I don't know of a recording that circulates. . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I tapped Prince on the shoulder a few months ago at Butter in NYC. The set was over and he was standing there and I was standing there, so...
I was very tentative about it because I didn't want my first (probably only) experience with him was him telling me to get the hell away or give me a dirty look. Anyway, he was making it a point to not catch my eye, so I let it go and stepped. But still... I touched him!!!!! Come here, babe.. yeah...

You're lucky you didn't get tackled by his bodyguards, LOL. Or worse yet, Prince didn't turn around and slap you back

it was a fun soundcheck prince and i had a little face pulling session while he was stinging leads
when prince walked past us along the front row my friend kind of freaked out and curled up into a ball infront of him instead of stepping back to let him past. she didn't want to make eye contact or draw attention to herself...which is excatly what she did. he pulled this face of confusion it's on the boot.
