Man,I hadn't listened to Lovesexy in a long time. I was blown away by it again the other night!It's like an underlying rock/pop album that Prince added some serious funk texture to.Usually,he is all funk and blackness then,adds his rock elements.I think this album in any other artists hands would be so completely different it wouldn't be recognizable.Now,that may make sense to no one except me.This is one of the freshest sounding albums I have ever heard.It is so texturally rich.The basses are popping everywhere and the guitars scream from behind partially opened doors.There is no other Prince album that sounds like this one. You may hear a certain level of following the "prince formula",but you haven't heard anything in the blueprint sound like this!I do think this album will grow in perceived importance over time. Each track can really be broken down into reasons why it's special.Threee(3 e's),in particular,grabbed my attention again,positivity,lovesexy,and when 2 r in love. Now,Positivity is so absolutely funky in so many ways that's it's ridiculous!Just give it a listen.Multiple hooks,the aforementioned bass pops,a very unusual and wonderful track. Then,we have lovesexy.One of my top prince tracks that always gets me motivated.It's all weird and sexuoligious with discordant horns that work(!) and strange time changes.It's very catchy in an un-catchy way.Some of the strangest drum sounds ever and a loin-pumping keyboard bassline hold the darned thing together.The vocals are really self-assured and make you believe what is being so joyfully preached to you.Then,the ending proves Prince is the strangest and baddest cat to ever lace 'em up .Who else could have gotten away with this stuff?? Finally,we come to "when 2 r in love".Musically,this is acid from a guy to weird,nerdy,horny,and spaced out to be on acid.This song is so wonderfully bizarre it's alarming.This,from a guy who topped the pop charts.This is as far a stretch as if britney spears came out with a funkadelic produced album.Prince is so strange we will never fully understand the actual level of strangeness.Thanks the planets that Prince was born very short and small.If he had been 6 feet we wouldn't have loved him as much.He had looks so,with the height there would have been nothing to make him this strangely self-absorbed.
