Try discussing a Prince related topic to just somebody who

isn't an enthusiast and look at the expression on thier

face as you explain your viewpoint or try to tell them

something interesting,(to us anyway), about Prince, in

hopes to get them to

understand...it just doesn't work...


Trying to find another individual out there whom you can

talk

to, face to face about Prince, without saying in the middle

of your sentence "No, wait!! really, where are you going???

Come Back!!! is damn near impossible!!!


Though when I'm at the night club and they put on a

Prince

song , there's a change, the whole place (especially, the dance

floor) still livens up, which on it's own level is

gratifying to see...

I know this to be true which is why when people ask me about my email address, I've stopped telling them it's the name of a Prince Song. I can't take the looks that they give me anymore. I guess I'm not proud of what I am.

Intersting enough, Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind and Fire have had some really killer unofficial whitelabel remixes hit the scenes over the past couple years...and while i've downloaded a couple okay prince mixes...he just doesnt seem to get the same attention as other acts...i think most people dont look at him as being "cool" enough to be played in the underground...now, im not talking the cheesy big clubs all the posers go to...im more talking about the seedy drug trippin places...the lounges and dives of the world where the beat is a religion...but i digress...

i look at people freaky when they say they love ben affleck movies to go figure..its all relative...and i dont give a rats arse...

People who proudly label themselves as "normal" are the true freaks, if you know what I mean.

I've always admired Prince for daring to be different--I know, I get the attitude from non- prince fans too. Screw them! I have followed him since 78- damn near my whole adult life. I feel like he is one of my dearest friends. If people don't like me cause I like Prince, then they aren't true friends anyway. My closest friends know how I've always loved him since age 15. My husband has never thought less of me, infact he encouraged me to go to the celebration last year. I will always hold Prince near and dear to my heart regardless of what casual acquaintances think.

i think its telling that some people feel like they are freaks because they follow or listen to prince...

Go to the Folsom Street Fair coming up in SF...now them peoples scare me...

better yet, attend a Marilyn Manson concert...I once dated a boy who tried so hard to fit into the Manson fold...now *that* was scary...

shoot...IMHO Prince people are tame and conservative compared to other extremes in this world...

Best bet, don't let on how serious you are about his music until you really get to know the person.

Tell you what though - I used to date a woman who loved his music also...we had some SERIOUS adventures in extacy - and I don't mean with the pill!

Bottom line: His music is for the advanced music listener. Most people who appreciate him play an instrament or sing. Also, they tend to be people who have very wide musical tastes I find. So, who's the freak? The person who listens to the programmed radio all day long with their short play list or the one who listens to an artists whose music spans all over so many so-called musical categories? So, with that in mind, who's REALLY the freak? Just something to think about...

Actually I just wrote a really long post but unfortaunately I have lost it!

Where did it go?

Really, I would rather be me and a freak than some 'non-freak' who knows nothing about music and idolises some talentless person who is in the music charts for 6 weeks then vanishes off the face of the earth.

I have enjoyed and followed Princes music for many, many years now. I have seen him have great hits and some not so great chart successes, I feel for him, and what he has been through over the past few years. I totally understand him as a person and a musician. And my interest in him has NEVER swayed.

Sometimes it upsets me when my friends criticise him, because they are criticising my individual tastes too. I do not let it get to me, as I am the one who is well informed. Yeah they may not think that he has ahd a song in the charts since SOTT, and his 'fashion statement' (SLAVE written across his face) is wierd, but when I tell them about his position with Warners and that he releases albums EVERY year, they then may keep quiet.

I do enjoy the confrontation in a sadistic kind of way, but also that I am doing my bit for my HERO, and any opportunity that I can talk about Prince freely makes me happy.
