Madonna Movie: "Swept Away"... Straight 2 Video?

In the newspaper 2day, it hinted that the movie might not b shown in theatres at all...that it would go straight 2 video. Now this... read on:

Editor Of Madonna's New Flick Say's Its A Flop
[Fri June 21, 2002 09:18PM]

Madonna's new film "Swept Away" will be a box office disaster according to the man who edited it, reports The Sun.

Eddie Hamilton also revealed that the singer’s hubby Guy Ritchie, who wrote and directed the movie, ordered graphic nude shots of his missus to be cut because they “weren’t too flattering”.

And some of Madge’s scenes had to be re-shot after they were deemed a turn-off to filmgoers.

The romantic comedy has been dogged by rumours of trouble on the Maltese film set and has had scathing pre-release reviews.

Guy even pulled it from last month’s Cannes Film Festival to save it being slammed by critics.

Now editor Hamilton has added fuel to the fire by revealing that a test audience hated it.

He was overheard at a recent party in London saying: “The audience didn’t know what to make of it. A lot of them marked it down and weren’t laughing at the bits that were supposed to be funny.

“They didn’t like Madonna’s character at all. A lot of the audience said she sounded too bitchy when she spoke so we had to re-record some of her lines.

“The film is very un-PC. There are a lot of scenes of the male lead beating Madonna up and the audience didn’t know how to respond to it. He beats her up and she falls in love with him.”

Referring to the racy nude scenes, Eddie added: “They leave absolutely nothing to the imagination and to be frank, they’re not very flattering.

“We took loads of footage of Madonna completely starkers but after seeing it, Guy said ‘No way!’.

“They both felt the shots didn’t make Madonna look too good — although they’ll probably crop up on the Internet in a few months.”

Eddie’s explosive comments are sure to infuriate Madonna and Guy and could mean he never works with himand producer Matthew Vaughn again.

A source close to Madonna said: “She will not be happy about what he has said at all.

“She is desperate to make a good film and for the editor to say such things is not good, especially as Swept Away isn’t even out yet.”

The film, due to be released in September, tells the story of a rich woman, played by Madge, who gets stranded on a desert island and falls in love with the captain of their stricken yacht.

In another twist, Guy included a Moulin Rouge-inspired dance routine during re-editing which required a full jazz orchestra and a Versace dress for Madge being flown out to the set.

The movie is currently marked for a 18 October 2002 release.

It's sad, really, that someone supposedly so close 2 the project would blast it publicly, b4 it's even been released. Oh well, not that we expect much from a Madonna movie...but with Guy Ritchie at the helm, I thought it might have had a chance. Whaddya think?

I read the following in some mag not too long ago, in its good news/bad news section:"The good news Madonna gets to be the lead in a Guy Ritchie movie. The bad news Guy Ritchie gets to make a Madonna movie..." )LOL! I love Maddie but damn she needs to give it a rest, she keeps getting worse. It was hard watching The Next Best Thing...don't know if she'll ever get good, hell even Farah Fawcett proved once and for all she could act...whatever...

I love Madonna, but really wish she'd quit trying to be a "lead" in movies. I thins she's at her best when just part of an ensemble, like in 'Dick Tracy' or 'A League of Their Own.' When she leads ('Shanghai Surprise' or 'The Next Best Thing') the movies just fall to pieces...

O well, maybe she'll prove us wrong yet!

You guys really shouldn't believe the rumors! Here is the OFFICIAL word from Madonna herself...

"Despite several news reports,"Swept Away" will hit theatres on October 25.Madonna has said in a statement that she is "very proud of "Swept Away" and added that she will promote the film as expected. Here's more to the story...Despite a published report in a London weekly,a studio spokesperson says that Madonna's first film with her husband,Guy Ritchie,is NOT in danger of going straight to video."Swept Away" is predictably controversial and test audiences have reportedly found the violence towards Madonna's character difficult to watch. But controversy is neither swaying nor delaying the release. The film will open in theatres on October 25 and Madonna will agressively promote the project."

I agree! Maddy should take smaller, supporting roles in films. She would gain alot of credibility as an actress.
